Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I'm due the end of May. I teach high school and was hoping to go back to work for the Regents (about 3 weeks after my due date). I would only go back for about a week and then have off for the summer.
With my DS I took 8 weeks (c-section). I'm hoping for a vbac this time.
Do you think this is realistic? Has anyone else ever taken a very short maternity leave?

Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I'm a teacher and I came back to work five weeks after I had DS and it was fine. After DD, I came back to my after school job when she was 10 days old. It wasn't my ideal situation after having her, but we managed to work it out... It is doable, especially if it's only for a week! Good luck : )

I think its possible but you will never know until it happens. I had a csection and could have worked a few days later. I know I had a great recovery but know its not the norm and it could be bad the next time around.
No birth is ever the same so I'd play it by ear if possible.

Re: Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I wouldn't really consider this a short maternity leave since you'll only really be back for a week and then you'll have off an entire summer. But what's your reasoning to go back for that week? I think I could have done that for a week with DS, but I have no idea how I'd be with 2 kids! Exhausted I image!

ITA, it's only a week. but is it really necessary to go back? will there be a benefit? i think you could power through a week if you have a vbac. a c section at 3w pp, you may not be able to plan ahead, you'd have to see how you feel. i had a great recovery from my csection but i was very uncomfortable at 3 weeks and didnt even try to drive yet, couldnt stand for long periods of time etc.

I took only about a 3 week leave. I had a vaginal delivery and felt fine about a week later. It's definitely doable.

Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I'm 3 weeks post partum and feel great. I had a vaginal birth, not sure how I would feel after a C. I think I would be ok to go to work if I had to, but I would probably be exhausted! Even though dd is a pretty good sleeper it would be rough being up through the night and then working all day at this point.

A couple of my friends are teachers and did the same thing. It was hell leaving the baby but none of them regretted it.

I agree. But honestly, for such a short time, I'd just stay home.

It's not 100% definite and I'm definitely playing it by ear. The reason I want to go back is I have a couple of student who get their tests read to them. I feel most comfortable if I'm the one reading to them (We've had bad experiences with other teachers and my students are most comfortable with me). If I can't do it, its not a big deal at all. I just figured I would see if anyone else went back soon and how it was. I'm trying to keep that option open.

Re: Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I went back to work 3 weeks after having DD #2 - I had a vaginal delivery. I worked 2 days a week for 6 weeks (summer school related services). I was more tired than anything but it was a nice break in the day to be honest.

Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I gave birth on Tuesday night and wanted to go back to work the following Monday. I did go in for a day but then I took more time off. DS was a preemie and it was a vaginal natural delivery.

I don't work full time, but I do teach dance. I only took 3 weeks off. With my send DS I took 4 weeks, but that's only because spring break happened to be that fourth week.

Re: Did anyone take a very short maternity leave?
I considered going back to work after a month, but ended up staying out 12 weeks.
Physically I felt I could have gone back within a few weeks of giving birth. But I was so exhausted since I was hardly getting any sleep & I wasn't used to it yet, so that would have made working long days difficult.
If you're going back only for a week or so, I think it's worth it & doable! Congrats!!

I'm not in a union so it wouldn't be an issue- its a private school.
