Nope... my baby got her cord blood at birth. we waited until the cord stopped pulsing before we cut it so she received all of it.
If you do a search about cord banking, my name under teh PG board you can probably come across some posts on WHY I chose this the health benefits etc.

We banked both babies with CBR
The main reason being that research continues everyday regarding what can be done with stem cells...however, there is only one opportunity to collect the cells...the money was spent in hopes of never having to use it but the reassurance that its there if necessary

We wanted to donate it to the free national bank but they said they were unable to get a good enough collection.

We chose to bank the chord blood. We were surprised when we learned how little chord blood has actually been used.
However, research is always happening and we never know what might happen down the road. My side of the family has a lot of illness. Dh is adopted so we have no idea. We made the decision to bank the blood because, if there is even the slightest chance that it could save someone's life down the road, it is worth it.

we really wanted to but couldnt afford the cost of it... it bothers me all the time cuz god forbid something happens and we could have used it, ill never forgive myself. with our next baby, we are going to do it, whether we can afford it or not.

I wanted to bank DS's cord blood but we decided against it at the end. All of DH's physician colleagues didn't bank their children's cord blood. I asked my obgyn and she didn't bank her kids' blood nor did the two pediatricians she had delivered babies for the week I asked my obgyn.
My obgyn told me that the cord blood wouldn't be able to be used for DS but for a sibling only.

We didn't- too expensive and DH and I both felt that it's just a way to prey on parental fears of "what if..."

Yes, with CBR.
It was money we didn't have at the time, but I thought of it as a life insurance policy that we only had a 5-minute time window to purchase. I wasn't going to chance it.

Same here with both DS and DD.
I banked my 2nd DC's. There is a 75% chance my 2nd childs blood could help my 1st. My OB practice was on the fence about it in 2006 with my 1st but in 2008 they had already saved 2 children in the practice from cord blood. We all have a rare genetic disease in the family that has already taken the lives of 2 babies. My Dr. handed me the newpaper article and it was a done deal. I feel the same was as stated above...

No.
I asked my OBGYN and he wasn't banking his sons cord (born two weeks after DD).
We tried to donate it but because DD was born at 5pm on the Friday before memorial day weekend, there was no one available.

Wow! I never heard of that! What a great idea! I will have to talk to my Dr. about it! Maria-can you explain what made you chose to do this?

We donated ours. We were thinking about private bank but decided to donate instead. From what I remember this is why we chose to donate. The cord blood can't be used on this child but could be used for siblings. It's a high price tag. If we needed stem cells for our son we would have to go donated cells. If you donation your cord blood and in the event you needed the cord blood for ourselves and it wasn't used by another person you would be able to use it.

We chose to bank it. We were able to afford it and wanted the piece of mind knowing that it is there if we ever need it. I didn't want want to have any regrets if we ever face a situation where it could have helped our child or another family member.
