We banked both babies with CBR
The main reason being that research continues everyday regarding what can be done with stem cells...however, there is only one opportunity to collect the cells...the money was spent in hopes of never having to use it but the reassurance that its there if necessary
Same for us.

We did - mainly b/c dh side of the family has a lot of illnesses that research has shown may be treated using stem cells - we are saving it not only for DD, but also, DH might (I stress might) be able to use it if he comes down with one of these conditions.

No, for a variety of reasons, but mainly due to the fact that the child that it came from can't use it - only siblings and some relatives. So if you plan on having only 1 child, the odds of actually being able to use it are slim.

I did it for 2 reasons.
1) Who knows what uses they will find in the future? What will happen if I need it and knew I could have had it but didnt do it for $2,000. We had the money, it was just should we spend it.
2) I could live with myself regretting banking it without using it,
but I could NEVER live with myself regretting not banking it and needing it. After thinking about it that way, my choice was clear. I am the type of person who has to feel like I did everything I possibly could.

We did. We made it affordable. We negotiated with both companies and ended up with CBR. we paid it over 6 months so it didnt hurt that much.
We think of it as a back up or just in case but we are hoping we never have to use it

My obgyn told me that the cord blood wouldn't be able to be used for DS but for a sibling only.
This seems to be a common misconception about cord blood banking, but cord blood transplants have been done successfully on the child the cord blood came from.

No. After discussing it with my Dr, her opinion was that it would be better to take the money and use it for a defensive driving course for when DD is older and to babyproof our house.
If we had alot of disease and illness in our families I may have reconsidered it, but we really have no cancer or anything in our family histories.

we didn't bank DD's and will not bank this DC's either.
DH and I also felt this way....we did not bank it
