Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

my doctor said I could eat whatever I want. Never had a list of "no no's" But I also had 1 kid in Utah and 1 in Boston. My friends that were preggo at the same time in NY had all the lists of "no no's" I always thought that was interesting

Oh I slept on my back too. And on my belly right up to the end. I can't follow "rules" when sleeping. All bets are off when it comes to my favorite activity! Chat Icon

My doctor was also very lax...no list of rules, just told me 2 things...common sense and moderation.
That's why I loved him so much. I am nervous with drs as it is the worst thing for me would be a nervousnell doctor! Chat Icon
He grounded me!

Did you do any

My doc is pretty lax and only told me no alcohol and no illegal drugs.

I asked about cold cuts, sushi, coffee, etc. and he told me to just use common sense.

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I drank 1-2 cups of coffe a day.
I occasionally ate feta with my salads.
I also ate a few deli meats but I'm not really a cold cut eater anyways so it was only a handful of times if that.
I had a sip of champagne on NYE.
I ate tuna fish a few times.
I'm sure I did others but I can't remember!!!

Edit to add my doc only told me to be careful with sausage and hot dogs. He didn't say 'no', but he said in moderation.

I think a lot of these no nos are things that drs never told us. It was because someone read it somewhere or heard it from their brothers aunts 4th cousin.

There is actually very little pg women need to stay away from.

Agreed

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I didn't like coffee all of a sudden while pregnant

I used Splenda and drank unsweetened iced tea when I went out.

I craved root beer and drank half root bear/half diet coke about once a week at some point.

I ate cold cuts often and wouldn't heat if I was out and couldn't

I ate hot dogs, bacon, shrimp (which I think is fine as far as mercury bc it's not a "big fish")

I drank bottled water all day long.

I loved fruit but don't think I ate a single vegetable or salad the my whole pregnancy.

I ate mr softee too. And I may have ran out of the house barefoot to catch him. Chat Icon

The only thing I stopped was alcohol. I drank coffee, soda, cold cuts, took my migraine medicine when needed (did consult with my dr. about that one first though), barely drank water because I hate it... But it's funny now because I try really hard to get my kids to eat healthy. I dont go out of my way but will buy organic when possible. Their juice is actually mostly water with a splash of real juice and they only drink that or milk. I still eat like crap though lol!

Many of the things people are listing, I never knew were no nos. I ate bacon and sausage pretty regularly.

I just steered clear of alcohol and cold cuts.

I don't typically drink caffeine but did treat myself to a couple of Starbucks drinks while pregnant.

This is not true in my case- my RE and I talked for over 30 minutes about restrictions and the reasons why she felt things should be avoided based on facts- she deals with lots of ladies that have struggled to get pregnant and takes a very conservative approach- she actually advised me to wash ALL fruit even those that you cut like cantaloupe due to listeria. The list was crazy but I knew this would likely be my only pregnancy and it was only 9 months. The chances of something happening are so small but I followed the guidelines I was given pretty closely. Especially when there was a risk of food borne illness.

Coffee was the only one. I had 1 cup a day.

I even gave up my clearasil face soap because my doctor said the salicylic acid could be harmful. My face looked horrible my entire pregnancy.

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I had coffee every day, sometimes twice.

I ate cold cuts a handful of times.

I ate raw bar at a wedding (same caterer as my wedding and I knew they were really fresh, and shucked in front of me)

I had sips of wine here and there.

I ate soft cheeses. Lots of them.

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

i didn't drink alcohol or coffee. but drank tea. lots of tea.

salami was my new best friend. i'd skip the sandwich part and just eat salami any time i saw it. yum!

didn't know about soft serve so did eat that.

honestly, my original doctor was so bad i didn't know about most of these. (i knew alcohol and fish and caffeine so stayed away from the first two and limited my chocolate intake for the last.)

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I had coffee every day.

I had a couple glasses of wine/champagne here and there at special events.

I ate cold cuts and soft cheeses for the first part of my pregnancy but transitioned to a mostly vegan diet midway thru so I stopped those then.

I had a hard time getting pregnant but I don't know. I just didn't stress too much about what I ate. I exercised up until 37 weeks and ate healthily 98% of the time. DS was/is perfect.

With my 1st I was much better about following the rules. With my 2nd:

I drank coffee daily-how else was my pregnant asss gonna keep up with a 2.5 year old

I ate coldcuts-but I attempted to heat them up first to make my self feel better

I drank diet soda a few times a week-I wasn't trying to gain the 60+ lbs I gained the first time around (and didnt!)

I had the champagne toast at a wedding

I didn't even know the soft serve rule existed for either pregnancy...( and my ds is only 3 months old).

DS is awesome!

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I did not do any no-no's in my first trimester. Second + third I was much more laid back, although I still followed the "rules" regarding unpasteurized cheese, sushi (which I don't like anyway), and cold cuts. Everything else was fair game (except artificial sweeteners which I don't ingest pregnant or not).

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I didn't drink except a few sips here and there, I didn't eat raw oysters and I didn't smoke crack. All joking aside, I was pretty lax-I ate cold cuts, cheese, highlighted my hair.

I did it all....cold cuts, caffeine, hot dogs, etc. No fish....but only b/c I hate fish to begin with. My pregnancy was a long journey to get to and I was high risk throughout. But I had/have an amazing ob who always guided me with "use common sense" approach and never restricted anything

I was actually very strict when I was pregnant. I am a very laid back person, and am so with my kids now. But with pregnancy, I didn't want to take any chances. If my doctor told me not to do something, I didn't. Not a risk worth taking for me.

Same for me. My doctor was very strict and had a long list of no's. I followed that plus extra thing my inlaws (different culture) didn't want me eating. I felt like there was nothing left for me to eat haha, but the kids are healthy, strong, and very smart. I know I did the best I could during pregnancy.

I will say I think coffee and hot dogs etc are ok in moderation.

I'll never understand people having drinks during pregnancy. It's understood that any alcohol affects a fetus's brain cells. Baby eats/ drinks what mom does. Why do it?!

I agree. My doctor was so strict because she had experienced issues with other patients. She had a lot of high risk pregnancies, and had good reason for her no list.

Did you do any

My doc didn't care about much. Said "Don't get sick" pretty much. So I ate what I wanted from where ever I used to buy it from. So I had Sushi about twice a month and tuna once a month and medium rare meats the entire time!

cold cuts and hot dogs make no diff. I never ate a lot of them to start with. I cut cokes only because I wanted to and actually cut them a YEAR before I was preggo.

I ALWAYS slept on my back

I drank tons of orange juice and never had acid reflux (and no AJ didn't either after being born)

What I did follow was no meds of any type other than Tylenol. I got sick once and though I was suffering some sort of cruel punishment and it was just a cold.

rules tho in general are impossible. I didn't follow them for AJ either. never knew strawberries before 1 were bad or peanut butter and honey. Who makes this stuff up? Neither NY or TX doctors ever said a word and I never asked.

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?

I was so so...I am not a drinker so I didn't drink

Did have a coffee daily

Got gestational diabetes so I needed to eat cold cuts cause I was running out of stuff to eat so ate those, not heated up in the third trimester

Drank diet soda and used splenda
