Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?
I ate sushi. Real sushi.
I drank wine after the 1st tri. One glass, as little as once a month, as often as once a week.
Cold cuts, hot dogs, soft cheeses, soft serve ice cream, coffee... I ate everything I was in the mood for.

I'll never understand people having drinks during pregnancy. It's understood that any alcohol affects a fetus's brain cells. Baby eats/ drinks what mom does. Why do it?!
Alcohol isn't poison, that's why It's a terrible idea to get drunk while pregnant, but one glass of wine every so often is not bad at all. It's been well documented. I completely understand why women abstain from alcohol during pregnancy, just explaining "why."

Did you do any
I don't eat meat, use artificial sweetener, drink soda, eat soft serve in general. So when pregnant I definitely didn't. Most cheese in the USA is pasteurized. You'd be hard pressed to find unpasteurized feta. So I ate most any and all cheese I normally ate. I don't drink caffeinated coffee but did have decaf. The idea of wine/alcohol esp in the beginning made me sick to think about. I had a few sips of procecco at 20 weeks when I found out the gender.
However from week 6-8 I felt nauseous all the time and lived off of bagels, toast, crackers, and plain carbs. Even fruit and almonds/nuts, yogurt, all my normal snacks made me feel sick to even think of!
I also constantly woke in the middle of the night flat on my back.

I had soft-serve ice cream and still had blue cheese dressing. The ice cream wasn't an option, it was my only craving.

Back when my mom was pregnant with me she was told she could drink in moderation. My mom said she had a few drinks, here and there, throughout her pregnancy. My brain cells are fine, thank you. As are my DD's. And I had a glass of wine a few times while pregnant. I think you are confusing fetal alcohol syndrome- which involves drinking a lot of alcohol while pregnant, on a regular basis, to the point of being DRUNK- with an occasional glass of wine. BIG difference.

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?
I was a vegan at the time so never ate any real no nos, but drank coffee and craved diet coke like a mad woman. And not the caffeine free kind!
Eta... Oh... I totally dyed my hair. I was already fat from the kid. I wasn't going to be gray too!!!

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?
I did all of the no nos. Drank a cup of coffee a day. Ate sushi, cold cuts, and hot dogs....although not very often but only because I wasn't in the mood. I had wine on occasion, but only in the late 2nd and 3rd tri.
I think some of the precautions people take while they're pregnant are a little extreme, but they have to live with their decisions, not me. As long as they have nothing to say about my choices I couldn't care less about what they do.

Re: Did you do any "no no's" while pregnant?
I don't eat cold cuts or drink soda/coffee anyway..........if I did, I would have kept those up in moderation
I stuck to the unpasturized cheese rule
I had a glass of wine here and there
eh - no one's business but mine what I put into my body while PG. I make no apologies.
ETA - Women all throughout Europe drink while pregnant. It's a cultural difference. The problem with American's is that we can't seem to do ANYTHING in moderation or with common sense, so we have to be told NO ALCOHOL in order to use our brains and not get sh*t faced .......... it's embarrassing as a culture.

I'm sure your brain is fine. I was told that even one drink affects a growing fetus' brain cells. Would you drink wine and breast feed right after? Did you take DHA supplements while pregnant? My mom smoked when she was pregnant with me. Doesn't make it ok to smoke a cigarette once in a while. I just don't and won't ever understand that. Everyone wants to give baby the best advantage, why drink anything at all?!

There are other cultures I can think of that never drink alcohol during pregnancy. On average they have the highest IQ's in the world. So maybe that says something ? Who knows but there is a reason doctors say no alcohol . during pregnancy.

Get ready for this. I didn't even BREASTFEED. I gave her good old, toxic, formula. From day one. Didn't even attempt it. I know, I know. CPS should probably be called. Between the half of glass of wine I had maybe twice while pregnant (that my OB knew about, by the way) and the lack of breastmilk, I should probably be in jail. Yet somehow, she is smart and strong and healthy and rarely ever sick and met all her milestones early. Hmmm, go figure.
ETA- I did not start this thread to judge what others do, just out of pure curiosity, so I am not understanding the judgement here. My DD is fine, trust me.

I didn't breast feed either. I'm not judging, I'm sure all kids are just fine. I have a different opinion on alcohol, nothing more than that.

I just wanted to point out that you can drink and breastfeed. You do not need to pump and dump. If you are ok to drive after 1 drink, you are ok to breastfeed. If you are not ok to drive, you can pump and then mix with breastmilk that does not have any alcohol in it.
Also if you do get drunk but wait until you do not feel drunk anymore to bf or pump, the alcohol is no longer present in your BM.

I think that pregnant women are told to steer clear of alcohol because there aren't any reliable studies that show what possible effects light drinking might have.Essentially, no one knows what amount might cause harm, so they encourage women to stay clear to be on the safe side.
