we do it every time we go and it was totally worth it!!! we calculated how much we would have spent and how much more the meal plan was and we would have spent double!!! it was def worth it for us!!!

Re: Did you get the meal plan at Disney? POLL
we did, but not to save money. we did it so that our vacation was completely paid off before we even get there. The only money we need to bring with us is our spending money for incidentals and tips.
we usually eat breakfast in our room each morning before we go to the parks. We choose the plan that offers one quick service meal, one table service meal and a snack. which is usually too much food.
To save money at Disney, we skip the Hopper Pass option. For a family of 4, a 5 day hopper pass costs about $400 more than a 7 day pass. so we buy the extra days.

Re: Did you get the meal plan at Disney? POLL
No, we don't get the plan. We just got back and spent $260 on food that would be covered by the meal plan which would have cost us over $400 to purchase. That was for 4 TS lunches & 3 dinners (1 TS & 2 QS). We can't be bothered making ADRs and rushing to get here and there to eat. Plus, we just don't eat in way that would result in anything close to a savings.
We did get the TIW card b/c it includes items we enjoy not covered by the meal plans most notably and some appetizers. Although, it's annoying that the CMs can't apply the discount -- they had to get a manager. That was seamless at restaurants but at the lounges we had to wait a while to get a check.

I had an enjoyable meal at Sci Fi on our last trip. I like the atmosphere and OMG the shakes. But the food is pretty mediocre and most reviews are negative. I still enjoyed it, having gone in knowing it was not going to be a great meal.

Re: Did you get the meal plan at Disney? POLL
We did not use the meal plan at all.
It was not worth it for us.
We don't do big sit down meals.
We had salads, burgers, etc..
We got our own snacks in our room and our own drinks (water/sodas) that we had delivered via garden grocers.
We spent less with quick service and no meal plan than if we had a meal plan.
It really depends what ou want.

This has always been my experience as well. It's definitely about the theming here.

Re: Did you get the meal plan at Disney? POLL
We have been to Disney with and without the dining plan. I hate quick service for lunch and dinner (burgers and sandwiches get boring real fast everyday) I like sit down dinners.
Disney has some great restaurants. We usually get water in lieu of a desert snack. We booked 2 back to back reservations for our upcoming trip - one having a reg dining plan and the other having a deluxe dining plan so we can go to certain rest that are 2 ts. (having a deluxe dining plan for 10 days is a bit much lol)
Def think its worth it for us
