Did you know- due to the swine, no children visitors allowed in maternity (hospital)?

My BFF just had her 2nd DS and only found out upon being admitted ( it was a scheuled-c) that no siblings under 19 could come to the hospital Chat Icon

Though I completely understand why they are doiung this- I feel so bad for her...Neither the doctors office, nor pre-surgical told her of this regulation so it was all thrown upon her at 5:30am the morning of her c-section...Her older DS is only 2, never been away from mommy etc...

The doctor is giving special privledges for her to see him in the main lobby, so thats a good thing, but he obviously can't meet his new baby brother Chat Icon

Just thought I'd pass it along to any other mommys ( or mommys to be), in case others didnt know so that you can prepare ( mentally ) and make arrangements for your DC's at home ..This was St.Charles, but apparently its a CDC regulation, so I'm guessing it applies to all hospitals and per the nurses this will continue until swine flu season is over ( whenever that ends up being)...

Apparently this has been on the news, but I don't get to watch anything other than Noggin these days Chat Icon

I did hear this and I know that St Cats is also making all babies stay in the nursery during visiting hours.

Yup, my friend came all the way to Winthrop and couldn't bring her 4 year old in to meet Meagan.

I delivered at Columbia Presbyterian.

They would not allow my 9 year old sister to see DD right after delivery.

BUT they did allow her to come to my recovery room the 4 days I was there. So she saw DD the next day.

NSUH Manhasset is doing the same. Also the only visitors allowed in the NICU were parents and grandparents.

All these ruls are silly, an adult can just as easily walk in with the flu or N1H1 virus

Yes, we left the hospital with DS#2 the day before they implemented this rule. Thankfully DS#1 was able to come visit very briefly....

It protects everyone, though -- I think it's a good rule.

right but adults understand basic rules- hand washing, covering mouth when coughing/sneezing, etc.- kids, not so much.

honestly it was super duper tough- we just had DS at Good Sam and DD had to stay with DH while I toughed it out pretty much solo b/c everyone was pretty busy- i had a few visitors- but for the most part, it was just me and Joel- and you know, although I totally missed DD it was really, really nice to just have this nice bonding time with DS and just heal and get well too!

I delivered at Huntington last month. No children under 12 are allowed in maternity EXCEPT for siblings. My 3 year old DS was allowed to come.

I think that is their standard rule.
I delivered DD in May (before all this Swine Flu restrictions) and my DS was only allowed to see her from the window.
My DD was in the NICU there for a month and not once was he allowed in. There were never young kids in there.

I am sooo glad I had DD when I did. I would have went NUTS not seeing DS.
I was in the hospital for 3 weeks even before DD was born.

Do you know how many women don't wash their hands after using the bathroom? I believe it is about 35%

besides, adults can be carriers or ill and just not know it yet

Yeah...Winthrop not under 18. Honestly, I wish they didn't allow any visitors except family. I am having a Feb baby and believe me .... no one is touching him/her. I work as a ped. dietitian so I see way too many kids with H1N1 at the hospital. Not worth the risk. I dont need my newborn having a spinal tap.

If someone doesn't want visitors they should be able to tell their freinds and family no visitors please.

but the blanket policy isn't fair to others who do want visitors.

get over yourself.....how can you argue a policy in place to help protect newborns. Its a few days, no harm done. If it protects one baby, then its worth it.

i delivered at south nassau last month and they don't have that rule. my 16 month old son and 2 young nieces visited me each day.

i personally wouldn't have delivered there if they had that policy. there was no way i was being away from him for 2 days. we all had the H1N1 shot (including DS). having DS there was such a highlight for me--having him get to know his sister immediately after her birth was very important to me.

The policy is flawed from start to finish, anyone can see that.

Didn't want anyone near your kid - then have the balls to tell your family to stay home.

Why should others be denied the chance to see their OWN kids?

besides, even our own government has sad the epidemic never panned out and cases are on the DECLINE

Feel free to get over yourself

Re: Did you know- due to the swine, no children visitors allowed in maternity (hospital)?

they are doing this at good sam too... my bff had her baby on 11/23 and no one under i think 16 could come visit.. not even siblings. She ended up having the flu anyway so no one could really visit her anyway. (not h1n1) She was isolated in her own room as was her newborn and anyone that did visit her had to wear full gown mask and gloves

That is about the reply I'd expect from someone ike you.

Nice that you say no harm done after we've had tons of mother here complain how upset they were to be away from their children - guess thier feelings don't matter to you.
