Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
I absolutely hate the thought of keeping up with the Jones' to make me feel like I should send in Valentines for all the kids in her class, but then on the other hand, I feel like it might help my DD make more friends.
Thoughts??

I dont consider that keeping up with the jones'. Valentines are fun and encourage social skills and friendships. But if you dont want to you dont have to.

I agree with this.
Yes - they go in with them each year. They made their own this year and they got such a kick out of it.

I will probably suggest it to DS and DD, but unless they want to do it (with help if they ask) I can't see myself forcing them to or doing it for them.

We did and almost the whole class did as well. One of the other moms did heart balloons for each child in the class this year $0.69 each at Party City. Such an inexpensive thing was an awesome gesture!

We did with DS to preschool (he is 3). I didn't do it to keep up with anybody I just thought it would be fun for DS to pick them out, fill them out, bring them in and distribute them and, it was!

Re: Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
I did send in Valentine's for DS and DD.
However, I am not a believer in all the candy so in DS cards there was a Spiderman tatoo and in DD cards there was a sticker.
My DH went to pick up the kids and he got all the goodie bags and candy that was in DS cubby. He said to me when he got home... "wonder if anyone thinks we are cheap because we didn't give an elaborate goodie bag?"
Personally, I don't care! I gave cards and that was good enough for me!

Re: Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
I don't think it's a popularity contest, but it's just fun for the kids and only costs a few dollars.
I thought for a quick second about doing them for DD at daycare then figured it was silly b/c they are so young.
Well she came home with two valentines from other kids and gifts from her teachers I don't even know the names of all the kids in the class, but now I know for next year.

Same thing happened to me and I felt terrible! I don't think the kids handed them out though b/c dd didn't seem upset or have any idea of what I was talking about when I asked her. I think the teachers just slipped them in the kids bags.

Re: Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
we did. DS came home with the class list and I signed up to bring something in for the party. I think it's something fun for the kids. Seeing all the cards they picked out was cute. Mason is only 20 months, but I plan on doing it. Their little Vday mailbox was an art project in school so why not fill them with valentines.
I loved as a kid handing them out. THe whole class was involved. Just the same when we had holiday parties everyone participated or go on trips, etc. It's a social thing for kids and I think of it as getting them involved and excited for something.

We always do. Jordan's loves giving them and she would feel very uncomfy about getting them and not having them to give out.

I wouldn't consider sending class valentines as keeping up with the joneses.
I loved making these as a kid. I can't wait until DS has a class that we can make these for.

Re: Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
I normally make goodie bags. I either put Playdoh, stickers, other holiday type stuff, and a lollypop. Or I get holiday themed cookies.
With everything going on with me right now I didn't have a chance, or the mindset to even think about Valentines Day this year.
I will do something for Easter though.
I don't see it as keeping up with the Joneses. I see it as doing something nice for the kids on a special holiday.

Re: Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
Yes I did.
I even bought two sets wasn't in love with the first set so went out and got Mickey Mouse Clubhouse type and taped a small box (4pc) of crayons to it.
It was so much FUN!!!
I remember being the kid who never got any I hated that feeling. It hurt. a LOT! But we had to make a box at school and kids walked around and put in their valentine cards. I always ended up with like 3-5 tops in a class of 15. It would burn so bad because you sat at your desk watching everyone else walk around you without stopping. I vowed AJ would never experience that.
I contributed some of it to our moving around a lot (military) so if I have a chance to foster friendships and social interaction I am all for it.
We made her box together at home (I posted photos) and she took so much pride in it. Every parent had to send in 18 v cards if they sent in any at all. So I sent in 18, she got back 15 (yes I counted! ) including her own. They distributed to every student. You weren't allowed to put names on the cards just "from" though a I know two did because they had AJ's name on them.
Screw the Jones! I do stuff cause *I* want to and if it brings my daughter Joy well I'm then hell bent to make it happen!
Can't wait to do it again!

Re: Did you send in Valentines to school/daycare with your DC
I did.
DS' teacher asked everyone to, so that nobody would feel left out.
We went to target and he picked them out (toy story ones with a pencil) and then he picked which card went to which kid in his class. it was cute and fun.
