Did your parents smoke when you were growing up?

Both my parents did and then my mom quit...our house was like a constant cloud of smoke and always smelled stale My sister and I hated it. My DH smokes now but he does it outside. Sometimes when I would go over my friend's houses, their parents would think we were all sneaking smokes bc I smelled like smoke It was so embarrassing I hated when my mom would iron all the clean clothes with a cig in her mouth..Now I am obsessed with having fresh laundry...that actually smells clean.

And now years later, I really shudder to think of all the years my sister and I sat in the house and the car with them puffing away....

Yes, my mom did. Usually in the kitchen, but the house smelled. never in the bedrooms.

DH smokes, but out the window or outside.

I saw a woman behind me the other day smoking in the car with her 2 (?) year old in the back seat. It made me soooo sad for that child.

My Dad smoked for most of his life. He stopped temporarily when he had a heart attack at 37. He started again and it contributed to his death at 61 of a massive coronary.

My mother never smoked a day in her life. She's almost 70.

My dad smoked about a pack a day. I remember, my mom would buy a new lampshade every couple of months for the lamp near where my dad often sat and smoked. It would be white and then by the time she changed it, it would be YELLOW. disgusting to think what that was doing to our lungs

Yes, they both smoked while we were growing up.

They stopped in when we were in our teens.

My dad smoked when he was younger but quick shortly after I was born.

My parents did not smoke but the Aunt that babysat me everyday chain smoked. Hmm she died of lung cancer when I was ten, I wonder if there was any connection.

Not really...maybe occassionally. I would have hated the stale smell of smoke on my clothes!

neither of my parents smoked :) but i had 2 brothers who smoked for years, though they were not allowed to smoke in the house.

I remember going to the corner deli every day for milk, soda and cigarettes.

Both my parents smoked but my Dad quit when I was really young so I don't even remember seeing him smoke. My mom quit smoking regularly when I was in my teens but she still smokes one or two on occasion.

Nope!
They were both very against it because they both grew up in households where both their parents smoked.

I made my dad quit when I was in kindergarten. My mother smoked until she got pregnant with me (but smoked when she was pregnant with my brother - in the mid-60's).

mine did, but so did all of my friend's parents.

my dad quit before my mom. she has been smoke free for 16 years.

I am highly sensitive to cigarette smoke. my parents, when they smoked, did not smoke around us (for the most part)

my mom was the only parent in our household and she NEVER smoked a day in her life. so when I started to smoke and she found out.. she threatened to throw me in a drug rehad center! so that's how serious she was about not smoking.

btw, I smoked for a short period and now I'm way over it

Yes they both did.
My Mother quit when I was 14 years old.
And my father quit about 10 years before he died from emphysema.
Which is a horrible way to die.

Please stop smoking!!!!

i'm Thankful that I never got hooked.

YES...and my mother still does. I got her to smoke outside but you can still smell it in the house. I was really embarrased when one of my friends told me I always smelled like stale smoke

I smelled like smoke and so did my house.. but that isn't the part of their smoking that makes me crazy. The thing that makes me upset is what they did to their bodies.

My dad died from complications related to emphysema and my mom died from complications related to lung cancer.

I would spend every day of my life smelling like smoke if I could have them back though.

Both of my parents did and I always smelled too. I still smell when I go over their house. My mom has since quit and only my dad smokes now.

Both my parents did until I was about 5 or 6. In school, they were teaching us about smoking and how bad it was and used to give up these pamphlets to take home, etc. My mom said she was so tired of us berating her with pamphlets, that they both quit My dad quit cold turkey and it was easy for him..my mom said it was much harder for her.

My father smoked a pipe and the walls turned this nasty orange/brown color.

He was foribly told to quit by the DR when he landed in the hospital. He quit cold turkey and has been smoke free for 3 years now.

The air purifiers in the house have done wonders for the smell!

I know my lungs are in for a beating as I get older and I hate being around smokers now.

My dad did till I was about 8. I used to hate how he smelled when I hugged him. This is why I absolutely hate cigarettes and have never tried one!
