Yes both did and both stopped when they turned 40.

No, they both quit when they found out I was on the way and never started again.

My dad smoked most of my life. He stopped cold turkey after he had a heart attack 7 years ago. He never smoked in the house though.

Both my parents did and then my mom quit...our house was like a constant cloud of smoke and always smelled stale My sister and I hated it. My DH smokes now but he does it outside. Sometimes when I would go over my friend's houses, their parents would think we were all sneaking smokes bc I smelled like smoke It was so embarrassing I hated when my mom would iron all the clean clothes with a cig in her mouth..Now I am obsessed with having fresh laundry...that actually smells clean.

And now years later, I really shudder to think of all the years my sister and I sat in the house and the car with them puffing away....

YES...and my mother still does. I got her to smoke outside but you can still smell it in the house. I was really embarrased when one of my friends told me I always smelled like stale smoke

Yes, both parents smoked but my Dad quit years ago. My mom still smokes, in the house and car around my younger sisters. Her house STINKS like stale cigarettes. I am so happy to be free from it. My mom will never quit, she smokes a pack a day and blames the tobacco company on her addiction. She started when she was 15 and didn't know any better. She says it's way too difficult for her and after YEARS of harrassing her to quit, I am ready to give up.

Yup, the house stunk, my clothes stunk...when I opened my door in the morning, I would instantly get sick from the smell. Years later, they both quit...which was wonderful. My father got throat cancer from it...but overcame it.

It's a disgusting, nasty habit. I can't stand it at all...

my father did, my mom never smoked a day in her life, recently several years ago after my grandfather died from lung cancer... my dad quit.

Both my parents were heavy smokers. 2-3 packs a day. My father had two massive heart attacks; the second one killing him when he was 70. My mother died at the age of 68. The pressure in her lungs was so high it was suffocating her. They were both too young and missed out on so much.

My husband, thankfully, stopped smoking 6 years ago and neither of my girls smoke.

My mom did- but she quit when I was about 10- she since has gone back to being an "occassional smoker" but does not smoke in the house- She had to stop when I was younger because the doctor told her I was getting sick so often because I was allergic to the smoke...

Yes but never in the house...they both have stopped now.

Yes, both of them smoked at least a pack a day. To agree with another poster...I can remember going to the corner deli for whatever and cig....

Dad smoked about 3 packs a day and quit when I was in college. He still has a cough but it is more out of habit now. Mom smoked once in a while when she felt like it but has not since Dad quit.

I was always repulsed by my dad's smoke and I got mad if he snuck cigarettes. I was a daddy's girl but I was always mad at him for smoking too much. I had always heard that parents who smoke are encouragning their kids to pick up the habit. In my case, it made me never want to smoke.

I thank G-d that my dad is still here despite about 35 years of heavy smoking.

NOPE!! My parents are not smokers. They are totally against smoking.

My mom never. My dad did occasionally then quit when I was 13.

Yes both did but they have both quit (my dad when I was a kid, my mom when I was a teenager). Seeing them smoke never in the slightest gave me an urge to smoke, in fact it made me hate smoking so much.

The weird thing is growing up I was used to the smell, but since my mom quit and I wasn't around it anymore, I can't stand the smell and get really irritated by it.

My mother quit about 5 years ago after she was diagnosed with emphysema

They did smoke or drink when I was growing up. Mom smoked years before I was born.

my mother still smokes, but not as much as she used to. she smokes in her bathroom out the window bc I yell at her.
