Different times...
So I have discovered a free TV app called Pluto and it has classic Price is Right episodes from the early 80s with Bob Barker. I keep it on in the background when I'm working since I'm a sucker for classic game shows.
But man, it is so stark how times have changed! Bob Barker openly hits on the female contestants, makes comments about their legs, said to one girl that she had a great outfit, but was "too covered up", leers at women's breast, kisses the models on the mouth, etc. Tells a male contestant that he "throws like a girl" when he threw dice in the dice game. It was truly a misogynist time.
Then they had a Chunky candy bar as one of the items in a game and the announcer describes and then says , "You have to open wide to get Chunky inside" Apparently that was the slogan for Chunky candy bars in the early 80s.
It is amazing how different things were back then, and watching it now, almost 40 years later, is really eye opening

We watch Card Sharks and the way the girls dressed and the questions is amazing.
Funny thing is people were not offended by any of this so that is why all shows were like this.

many people were offended, but you would be called out for being a big baby and not being able to take a joke.

Don’t know many that were but I guess some were and instead of turning off the shows, would just complain

I heard he ended up marrying one of the contestants from the show. She was much younger than him too.

Times change. Awareness changes. Just like there was once a time when "no one" was offended by separate water fountains and segregated schools. We live, we learn, we grow - hopefully

I literally cringe when he speaks to the women that way. You can actually see how uncomfortable they are but back then, as a woman, you just had to smile and take it. Thankfully it's different now!

Archie Bunker too.
Funny to watch then and even now; but would never fly to air on TV these days....
The scary part is that many of the Archie Bunker episodes are still relevant today!
About 10 years ago, I saw a rerun of All in the Family. Gloria told the following riddle:
A man and his son are in a terrible accident. The man passes away, but the son is severely injured. The ambulance brings the boy to the hospital. The surgeon looks at the boy and says "I can't operate on that boy. He is my son." How can this be?
The answer is that the surgeon is his mother. Well, I told that same riddle to some guys at work the next day and no one got it either!

Re: Different times...
Richard Dawson was cringey af too checking women's molars with his tongue. how many of those women really wanted to kiss him vs felt they couldn't decline because of his position and the cameras rolling?
Back then this kind of crap was acceptable and commonplace. How many 'secretaries' got random ass slappings for bringing the boss a cup of coffee? Or told they couldn't wear pants to the office? As recently as the 90s, a woman I know was forbidden from wearing pants at work. Crazy.
I'm glad they finally added male models to The Price is Right.
On a different note, sometimes I like to watch old game show episodes from the 60s and 70s because it's always entertaining to see people lose their minds over avocado green appliances and lava lamps as prizes or seeing a new car valued at $3k and I get a kick out of watching reboots of old shows (or long running shows like The Simpsons) and seeing these old characters from my childhood with their modern day technology and internet lingo lol. It's a trip for sure.

Yes, Good Lord those men are hot!
But has anyone seen it recently? They started filming again so it's completely different. All socially distanced. No audience. They announce who is "coming on down" next and they walk out from back stage. The whole set has been changed to have everyone far apart. Contestants row is all different now and spaced out. And Drew Carey looks like he became a mountain man during the lock down He has a bushy, grey beard.

I haven't actually paid attention to a recent episode. Sometimes it's just on mindlessly in the background with nobody watching. But, I did watch an episode of Let's Make a Deal a while back and I was like "will you look at that, they're filming new episodes already? and the audience is packed like sardines like nothing's going on?" then I realized it must've been a rerun from precovid 2020 lol

Yes they were showing old episodes of Let's Make a Deal and Price is Right for a long time since they ran out of new episodes and weren't filming since March Just recently I noticed both were back with completely different sets and distancing in place. Let's Make a Deal has people sitting in their own little pod type areas rather than packed in the audience shoulder to shoulder.

Sounds bizarre. I'll have to try to watch an episode to see. I guess it's better than nothing. At least they're able to get back to filming. Some shows I watch have written covid into the story line so the characters wear masks when they're near each other. Strange times for sure. One show in particular was really funny about it. Superstore, kind of like The Office but takes place in a Walmart type of big box store. The show's whole premise is great because they were able to parody the whole toilet paper frenzy and lack of ppe from a retail perspective lol. It's the first episode of the current season. Worth a watch on Hulu or On Demand just to be able to laugh about it

Different times...
We watch the Game Show Network alot because it's mostly ok wit the kids around but the WORST is Match Game. I just can believe the things that come out of people's mouths and the way they just leered at the women. And the way they made fun of gay people right in front of Charles Nelson Reilly. Sometimes I just sit there with my mouth open.

It is horrible. Drew and James look so old and worn out. The contestants act surprised they were picked when you know they are the only ones backstage. Screaming is a HUGE pet peeve for me and it seems they are doing more of that so I can barely watch it anymore.

I've been watching old episodes of married with children. Same kind of thing. Although I have always wondered why Al hated having sex with Peg, she was very attractive!
