Discouraged...

I just started working out again. I have done some type of cardio every day this week---kickboxing, ski machine, treadmill. I have been eating right too. The problem is that I gained 1 pound! Why would that happen and what can I do? I feel like there is no point working out if its going to make me weigh more. Chat Icon

Re: Discouraged...

Try not to get discouraged: weight loss takes time. Your body needs to adjust to your new healthy habits. Your hardwork may not show up until next week or even the week after. Keep at it- you'll see results (they just don't happen overnight...or sometimes even in a week).

Re: Discouraged...

The same thing happened to me... i started at the end of february. for the first time ever, i exercised every single day for over 30 days straight- no excuses. I always lost weight when I would exercise even 2 times a week and cut out bad food. For the first time in my life i was running on the treadmill and doing cardio and yoga and pilates and toning exercises. Every day I did 20-60 minutes of a hard effort filled workout. I also had no snacks or desserts, cooked healthy dinners and ate smaller portions and I have oatmeal and berries for breakfast every day and a healthy lunch if i have time for it otherwise none. 35 days later and I haven't dropped any weight... I gained 1 pound... i am discouraged but I am not giving up. I am going to try to go another month if I can and see if there is a change. Because if I don't lose next month, then i am going to get really upset.

I've been doing a similar thing, but have not hugely changed my eating though I've definitely made improvements. I have gained a pound, but I also have noticed some changes in my body - I started my 30 day work-out plan because of an upcoming vacation and last night I put on a pair of shorts I tried on a month ago and they definitely fit better so that's encouraging. I'd like to see the numbers move too, but feeling better in my clothes definitely helps keep me motivated! I'm going to start 30 days part deux after my vacation and keep the activity going and add one more healthy thing each day - haven't decided yet what my new thing will be for 30 days part deux but I'm leaning towards cutting out soda ... we shall see.

Good luck! It definitely takes time and maybe take measurements or find another way to track your progress other than the scale.

Chances are your muscles are retaining water. When we begin working out or increase our workouts, our muscles retain water to help repair themselves.

Usually a few weeks. Until your body starts to get used to the extra activity.

Thank you. That makes sense bc I haven't worked out in so long. All of a sudden I was doing it every day. I'm not going to give up Chat Icon
