I've done both... Spring break this year and August two years ago. Spring break was 1000x times better than August. I will NEVER go in August again.
Can I ask why you'd never do August again? Give me the bad and the ugly. I have to make a decision soon.
August was still very much crowded as most of the country has not gone back to school yet. The heat was unbearable and rained quite a bit. Mid 90's everyday. My kids were miserable and it was more stressful than fun
Spring Break was still crowded but because "spring break week" varies so much from state to state, even district to district, it never felt overwhelming, like every kid and their family was there at one time. Weather was beautiful and a lot less humid. Mid 80's during day, 70's at night.
Now this is just my own personal experience and someone else may have had the opposite. But if I were to do it again, it would have to be spring break time.
FTR... I stayed off Disney property. But that has no bearing on my experience.
Thanks so much! Have you gone the last week of August? From what I hear it is a lot less crowded then. But I just don't know whats worse - unbearable heat or unbearable crowds.
No the week I went was the first week of August. I live in VA and my kids go back to school the 3rd week of that month.
If you chose to go the last week in August the crowds may be a tad less but no less than a spring break IMO.
So essentially same crowd level but much hotter.
the end of August is SOOOO much less crowded than spring break!!!! They aren't even close - crowd level wise.
Definitely!

Disney spring break 2018 or August
we're going the end of August, for the third year in a row HAHA its a nice time to go. its crowded, but not compared to other times. the heat can be tough-- but the lower crowds make up for it. most of the lines and rides are shaded, so its not like you're standing out in the blazing sun all day. plenty of longer indoor shows to get a break from the heat, or just plan to go back to the hotel for a little bit in the middle of the day. and also just be ready for rain, too... but thats any time of year in Florida

I did spring break, pre-kids. It was a zoo. Couldn't imagine what it would have been like with kids now lol... I would go w/ August.

Re: Disney spring break 2018 or August
I would go in August. Not only are the crowds lighter, but ALL the costs are lower - from park tickets, to hotel rooms, to airfare. I looked for spring break for 2016, and for my family we pay between $690 & $720 for airfare out of Islip. For spring break it was $1692. I have also seen MK closed due to capacity issues during spring break.
We were there August 2016 and Hurricane Hermine made landfall. It caused lots of rain - but the biggest impact it had on us was closure of the water parks, and the need to buy rain ponchos one night because we left ours in the room and it started raining heavily during dinner.

August.
We have no experience during Spring Break, but we have no patience for crowds and love to maximize our trip on the rides.
I'm the biggest complainer about the heat and humidity and when we went in August I didn't care one bit about the heat. I was in Disney, with my family, having a blast, going on rides multiple times. We were in & out of AC, water rides, whatever. It was awesome. My son was 5 at the time, no stroller, we did 5 park days day and night, plus two days off park filled with activities. It really only rained HORRIBLE one night we were there - it was insane and not a quick passing storm, but believe it or not it was our absolute favorite day/night there. The memories we created that night were awesome!

Re: Disney spring break 2018 or August
We went to DW at the end of June. It was in the 90s and humid. After that trip, we said we'd never go back in the summer. We like to stay in the parks from opening until late and being in the heat and humidity was tough. It barely rained, it was pretty crowded and it wasn't enjoyable to wait on long lines in that weather. We ended up going to Disneyland at the same time 2 years later and the trip was so much more enjoyable. The parks were smaller, it was much less crowded and even though it was as hot or hotter than FL, the lack of humidity made it so much more bearable.
I wouldn't be thrilled with the spring break crowds, but would prefer dealing with more people than heat and humidity.
