DISNEY: Told not to go...

We are planning a Disney trip for next year (Feb-Mar). My children will have just turned 3 and 2. We've been so excited about planning our trip and then people starting giving their opinion and DH has changed his mind as does not want to go Chat Icon

Do you think my children will be too young?

Do you think it'll be more of a stressful trip?

Friends are saying it's hard to explain to a 2/3 yrs old why they are waiitng in line and that they need to be patient. Their trip was more stressful then enjoyable.

My oldest who is 2 now has been saying he's going to Mickey's House and it breaks my heart to think that we may not be going.

Also we won't be staying inside the park. We want to stay outside. Any suggestions on were to stay that is kid friendly (if we decide to go)?

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

I don't think they're too young to go AT ALL!

We USED to get a great deal there since I had a relative work there so we used to go 2 times a year. The first time we went there with my 1st son was when he was 20 months old. All I can say is that he had so much fun as did we, he remembered it for years to come. I couldn't believe it. And then he went a whole bunch of times as he got older. We did the same with my 2nd son except his first time going he was only 8 months old and my 1st son was 3 almost 4. We have been going every year since. The last time we went was last June when they were 6 and 3. I can't wait to go again. My DH is tired of going now. Chat Icon I love it! Chat Icon I don't ever get tired of Disney!

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

Any trip is going to be hard with little ones from here on out.

We just went to Disney - my oldest is 3.5 and my youngest 17 months. This was a stop on our cruise. I did say that I won't be going back until my youngest is 3.5. The lines are long, it's hot, and they get cranky. Jack (3.5) was a good age for it, but I do think there is much more for them to do as they get older.

That being said, you should go - it's a family vacation and you are making memories. I don't regret going. It was hard work - but what's not these days Chat Icon

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

Several people have told us that our kids will be way too early to go to Disney (DS will be 2 and DS#2 will be a baby). We've also been told it is more hassle than it is worth.

The people I know in real life who went didn't have a good time with their toddlers but everyone on here loves disney and says they aren't too young.

I love to vacation and think it will still be worth it. I want to go when the weather is nice enough to enjoy the pools. I wouldn't expect to spend multiple days at the parks. I'll have to see how crazy it is once the second baby is born. I may have to re-evaluate when I'm juggling 2 young children.

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

I don't think they are too young to go.

As long as you go with the mindset that this trip is about your DC and making it enjoyable for THEM. They are still young, and yes, they have short attention spans.

To me, a family trip like this should be about the kids and what they enjoy, not about what an adult would want to do. You will need to be flexible and patient. Even if that means skipping the parks one or two days and splashing around the hotel pool.

It will be a lot of work, but travelling anywhere with toddlers is a lof of work.

Go to Disney and create some great memories!

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

This sounds like my DH. I am trying to plan to go to Disney in October and DS will be 18months. I know that is young and he wont remember but to see his face when he sees everything Disney is enough in my book. It is totally annoying me though trying to convince DH to go. Chat Icon Chat Icon I am hoping I WIN this battle! I told him we can do disney for like 4 days and then go to like daytona or something and do beach stuff for 4 days.

I def dont think 2 and 3 are too young! I think thats the best!

I don't think it's too young to go (we took DS at 10 weeks though since we were in the area).

I'd stay away from going during spring break (which the main week seemed to be this week) or President's week. Otherwise - you shouldn't have a huge issue with crowds and it won't be too hot (it may be chilly though - last year when we went it was in the 40s one day).

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

We went 2 yrs ago with our 2.5 year old and this year with a 4.5 year old and 9 month old. Both times we had a wondeful and amazing experience. DS had no problem waiting online, but it wasn't super crowded when we went. We went in January. No regrets! Is it a lot of work to go with 1 or 2 kids compared to going with out kids, of course, but that will be no matter how old they are. I think it was worth it and would do it all over again!

Put the two of them in a stroller. Tell the staff they are under 3 and they are free to get in to all of the parks..Save yourself a ton of money! DH should like that. We took DS at 5 months old. He loved it IMO. We are going back for his 2nd birthday in October. Kids of all ages love it. Definitely go!!!!!

I hate battling DH on vacations! He always says DS is too young. We were supposed to go when DS was 20m old. DH convinced me we shouldn't go because I was suffering from morning sickness. That is the only reason I gave in to not going. I would have kept pushing to go otherwise.

We just got back from Disney last week and my daughter is 2 1/2. She LOVED it! I didnt think she would last as long as she did! We only took her to Magic Kingdom and I would DEFINITELY recommend the breakfast with the characters..that was her highlight of the trip. I dont think she will remember much of it, but it was definintely worth the trip!! Any questions let me know

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

That's not too young AT ALL. Don't let people ruin your plans.

We went just before DS was 3. He loved it.

I don't make vacations plans for DS to remember for a lifetime. We make plan for the moment. I don't consider Disney the trip of a lifetime. We do plan on going back next year. We all enjoyed the moment last year. Who cares if he remembers? We all had fun at the time.

2 and 3. yes, they will have fun. You will mostly go to the younger kid rides but parents can go on those rides too.

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

Ok - FIRST of all, Disney is not MEANT to be a relaxing vacation - DH and I went years ago when we were ust dating - it's fun stress - but it's not relaxing !! Lol

Anyone who tries to tell you that traveling w/ children is a totally stress free 'vacation' at ANY age - is lying !!

Fun - yes
Entertaining - yes
Wild and Crazy - yes
Lots of laughs - yes
Relaxing by the pool w/ a frosty beverage - no
Staying in bed until 10 - no
Hittign the spa all day - no
Romantic dinner at night - no .......

I think 2 and 3 are good ages to go b/c they 'get' the whole character thing and the rides etc etc. - Even if a 4 or 5 year old could better 'understand' the need to wait on a line, they're not going to LIKE it or whine any less KWIM?

I say go and have a great (Stressful) fun time w/ your family !!

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

Def not too young to go. Will it be work? Yes. But it will still be a lot of fun. If you go during off times then the lines won't be that bad.

Off site I have heard good things about Vistana. I believe they are like condos and I think the units have kitchens or kitchenettes.

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

I'm crashing but we went with our neice and nephew...they were about 3 1/2 and 1 at the time give or take...we went in January, the park was dead, we had beautiful weather (at night you needed a coat), and the kids loved it...no lines, no waiting, no meltdowns...

If you go during the off season during the week the park will be pretty empty and under 3 is freeChat Icon

If you are used to being out and about with your kids you'll be fine! My sister in law didn't seem stressed at all.

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

We have been going every year since kids were born and they LOVE it at every year. I say absolutely go! My only advice would be to plan on being VERY flexible with your day. If you get too caught up in "have to be here, have to be there" at specific times, you could end up very stressed out. Also at that age, the parks are overwhelming so plan on short periods there, maybe one morning, then pool for afternoon. Then go one evening but stay at hotel in morning. To be there all day is a LONG day for kids that age and they will be cranky. If you can avoid that, you should have a great time! Most importantly, don't go with any expectations--like that your kids will run up to Mickey when they see him, etc...because you might be disappointed when you find they are really afraid. Let your kids guide you for your stay. It can definitely be an awesome trip for them and you!

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

We went when my DD was 3.5 yrs and my DS was 2 months shy of 2 yrs old!

They BOTH had the BEST time!!!!!!

my DH was hesitant at first too thinking they were too young..but I insisted they werent...and when my DD was magically entranced by all the Princesses he was even tearing up!

My 23 month old was/is obsessed with Toy Story and when we stayed at All Star Movie hotel IN the TOy Story buildings the look on his face every time we walked to our room....was priceless!!

THey not only loved Magic Kingdon...BUT Hollywod Studios was a nice surprise...it was A BIG hit with both kiddies...witht he Disney Playhouse section and all the TOy story stuff!

They also loved Animal Kingdon with all the animals and bugs life show and Little Mermaid show..it was wonderful!

Try to convince you DH - you and he wont be sorry!

AND IGNORE all that try to talk you out of it...(I DID!!!) they are just jealous that they are not going! Chat Icon Chat Icon HAHAHA!

Re: DISNEY: Told not to go...

we have no plans to go to disney anytime soon (kids are 3 and 1).

1. They both still take 2-3 hour naps

2. They can't go on any rides

3. Very expensive

IMO - I plan on going when they are old enough to know they went. I know Disney is a special place, and I want to take them when they can enjoy it completely and know they went - since it costs a fortune and not have to deal with over tired children.

Instead we opt for vacations like Beaches where is simple, and enjoyable. Its like being at sesame place with the bonus of water parks, beaches and day camp (for naps).

I think its up to you and how you view vacations. Not for me...but not to say its a bad idea. I know a lot of parents who go and love it.
