Not technically a neighbor, but my friend who I work with lives 2 minutes away and she has an extra key.

She is also the person who feeds the cats when we are out of town.

No but to be honest, I wouldn't have a problem giving our keys to at least four different neighbors I can think of.

We live in the house that DH grew up in so some folks have been there all his life. Our one neighbor is a cop and actually when my mom was staying at our house watching the dogs for us, she locked herself out and he had to break in for her!! LOL!!

No. SIL lives 10 blocks away, so whenever we need some help (let dog out, etc.) - they are close by to take care of it.

we swap keys with the family we share the house w/ only when one of us is goign on vacation. we always swap back when we come home.

yes...and i am glad they do since we have been locked out twice

no they dont but i do like my neighbors and feel i could trust them, we just havn't gotten around to it yet.

Maybe this summer we feel more comfortable.

To be honest though no one has keys, not my family or his, so if we get locked out we will have to break a window

We actually don't use the front door at all so a key would sort of be pointless Our cleaning lady has the code to our garage, does that count?

Our next door neighbor has keys to our house and we have to theirs. They have taken care of the animals when I was in the hospital or we were on vacation. I trust them implicitly, although it took us about a year to get to know them and trust them.

There is no way I would give any of my neighbors a key to my house no matter how much I trusted them.

NO WAY!!!

But I live in a very different than most. I couldnt imagine leaving my key with ANYONE besides family...and even some family members I am "iffy" with.

MY BIL lives downstairs in our basement and he has a key, amd Dh's best friend has a key, he lives 5 mins. away.

my across the street neighbors have a key & our alarm code. We have theirs too. We take care of each others pets often.
We were just in FL for 3 days & they took care of my chickens, rabbit & dog....such a big relief for me to know my pets were well cared for. I have one or two other neighbors that I'd trust as well if I needed a backup.
I have no reservations about them being in my house when I'm not home. My office & bedroom are upstairs & we have a keyed lock on the BR door.
I don't have anything so private or anything to worry about. Another reason I love living here, its a more old fashioned way of living.
My Mom lives 5 minutes away & she has a key & our code also. When we were away, she typed in the code wrong on the alarm & the police came

I live in a apartment complex so I can call the front desk and they will bring a key over.

My parents' have given our neighbor keys to our house and we have keys for their house. Growing up their kids would come over our house at least once a week for their keys.

My best friend lives in the same town. She has the keys to my house. My sister and sister in law also have keys. I don't think I need to give out more than that.

I don't get along particuarly well with my neighbors - so none of them have access to my house.

My friends gave the access code to their home to their neighbor across the street - and they've never had a problem. I guess it depends on how much you trust them and like them.

We live in a coop and dont know many of our neighbors, so they dont have keys to the apt. my super has a set and my in-laws who live less than 10 minutes from us have a set.

No....no neighbors have keys and we are somewhat friendly with a few of them.

However, my BIL and ILs live minutes away and they each have keys.

Our neighbors have our keys- and we have theirs. He's a cop so I trust him.

she doesnt but I want to give her one, I just keep forgetting. The other day I locked myself out of the house with DD! Luckily my MIL was home and came by but it would have been so much easier if my neighbor had a key

OK, so DH and I are having a very polite disagreement and I was curious to see what everyone else does.

We are going away and I need someone to feed my cat while we are gone. In the past, I just take her to my parent's house and they watch her, but the last time she was there, she had some issues and I think my mom is afraid of her now!

So, I want to ask one of our neighbor's to see if they could do it for us. We have lived here for 2 years and these are neighbors that I like... they are around my parent's age, maybe a bit younger.

DH is giving me a hard time because he doesn't want anyone to have a key to our house. I would actually like a trusted neighbor to have a key in case one day I lock myself out for some reason and he is not around (my parents have a key but they are 35-40 minutes away). And keep in mind the first month that we lived in our house DH locked himself out and I had just flown to Kansas!

Anyway, just thought I would throw a poll out there... do you have a neighbor that has a key to your house?

Nobody has a copy of our keys.
I don't know what I'd do if we got locked out! But, I am super paranoid every time I walk out the door that I bring my keys with me... so it's very unlikely I'd ever forget them.

we don't but my parents have keys to our neighbor friends that live two houses away from their house. We have known each other for 24 years and I grew up with their kids. Sometimes they give me their key to take care of their pets when they are away.

I wouldn't give a key out unless I have years of friendship behind it.

It's from Kwikset. HomeDepot has them. Very simple to install, and very easy to use. As long as you use a number you can remember, you can't ever get locked out, even if the neighbor who has a spare key is away from their house.....
