Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?

She then told me the Stride Rite sneakers I had on my dd at the time were actually too heavy. You should look for light weight shoes. It makes it easier for them to walk and run. Makes sense.
This is why I think its so important to go somewhere that "specializes" in childrens shoes-
There are alot of shoes I like- name brand and all- and the salesman will flat out say- thats to heavy, to narrow or whatever.
If you go to someone who has knowledge you child will be in the correct size, width and "type" of shoe

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
Robeeze are perfect pre-walkers or crawler shoes. They should not have super heavy shoes. But each of my children, once they started to walk, got a pair of stride rite. I get them their event (aka wear once or twice) and "fun" (aka super sparkle princess shoes) at Target or payless but their main shoes are typcially stride rite or a brand from Kohls. I myself hate Payless shoes. They always hurt my feet. I want the kids to have solid support and a good fit. I don't think payless offers that to me very often.

I usually got them one pair every so often, the pair they would wear the most. But I buy them at the SR outlet or from Marshalls. If you want to go that route, just go into a store and have his foot measured, try on some shoes for sh!ts and giggles (well to see the best fit) and then say no thanks. You can also get them cheaper on Shoebuy.com and other online places.
We do the same. Once I discovered how cheap they are at the outlet and marshalls now I buy the SRs all the time. I get them for $16.99 at Marshalls. Payless wants 12 or $15 for their man made plastic shoes so I might as well. Century 21 has nice shoes discounted too but they're higher end than stride rite, they're european or pumas, etc.

Im not sure if they have to be stride rite- but I do suggest going to a childrens shoe store & having their foot measured and buying them a good pair of walking shoes (especially for their first pair) For the most part stride rite is the cheaper end of "good" shoes...
I would have them sized in a childrens shoes store and then go to the stride rite outlets or order them from shoebuy to save some $$$

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
i did just buy DS his 1st shoes from SR and i feel it is very important that he has correctly fitted shoes at least while his feet are growing so fast .
they did say that he would be needing new shoes every 3 months
so it could definatly add up quickly.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
DS first walking shoes were from Stride Rite and to be honest, once he started to wear them he was walking in no time.I felt they gave him the proper support. I bought him 2 other pair of sneakers because he has wide feet and a pair of brown shoes. Once he was walking and I was able to find other sneakers/shoes in wide width, I stopped buying Stride Rite shoes because I am not a fan of the styles

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I think I've read from quite a few sources that when learning to walk, they don't need shoes.
Payless sells walking shoes that come in wide and are a quarter of the price. They are lightweight and look just like those ugly white walking shoes that all babies wear I never had stride rite shoes, nor did my siblings, parents or grandparents and we all walk just fine!! DS on the other hand..he had stride rite as his first pair and the poor kid is flat footed. I think if you are going to have foot problems, you will have them regardless of what type of shoes you wear. Oh, and Stride Rite shoes don't have arch support..I realized that after my son was getting PT and the therapist said he needed shoes with arch support.

i buy them from marshalls and they are 1/4 the price. they have tons of them at the marshalls on 110 over by the mall and by the big h.
Do they have boys sneakers there? The ones I have seen from Marshalls have all been on little girls - its so hit and miss there - how do you choose the right size?
I go to Stride Right to have them measure her foot and buy 1 pair, and the rest from either Target or Payless.
I'm going to have to try Marshalls

His first walking shoes, I did get the Stride Rite. I once got him a pair from payless and now his most recent pair is from there, but they are more like second pairs.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I only buy stride rite, but I have never bought a pair for over 20.00.
His latest pair was from marshalls. Before that I had a coupon to shoebuy.com and I go to the outlet.

OK - that sounds like a plan - the outlet in Tangier?

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I went to Stride Rite for their pre-walkers and walkers. I like to go there b/c they size them properly and i think that is important.
Def got to the outlets after you get sized. There is one in Tanger & New Hyde Park.

I buy Stride Rite or better but never pay full price. I go to the outlets or Marshalls, TJ Maxx. I think shoes are very important.

I was told by a doctor that Stride Rite is overrated and unnecessary. Just make sure they have comfortable shoes that fit them well.

the price of them is out of hand, but sometimes they have really great sales... I like them for DD b/c she has wide feet... and honestly, once they get over 1 they slow down with the growing.

I buy DD one pair of Stride Rite's for the season, usually her sneakers. Her dress shoes and sandals I get from Target. Although I was in Nordstroms the other day and bought her an adorable pair of Geox sneakers for 60 bucks!! OMG what was I thinking
Oh you have got to find a Nordstroms Rack... The Geox are no more than $15

I know I should probably know this, but is there one in the Source Mall? I never really go to that mall, I am always at Roosevelt Field, so I am not sure but I think I remember one being there? I love Geox, so getting them for way less then 60 would be great! Even if they are last season, she's not even 2 yet, she'll never know the difference.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
since DD started to walk she has only been in SR. we bought her 3 pair- a sneaker, a black dress shoe and a white dress shoe. she has been the same size since november. I am going to take her next month to see if its time for a new size. I honestly dont think they are expensive. I go to the wantagh bootery or naturalizer I forget the name. they have such cute shoes!!!!

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I agree - Wantagh Bootery is the only place I'll get my kids shoes. You can cut corners in so many other places. I think the fit is the most important. They always have coupons out and they have a frequent buyer plan where you get a pair free. I know that if my feet/shoes hurt I'm miserable. The last thing I need is miserable kids! LOL!

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I always got my older two stride rite when they were small because the guys are great and know their stuff. Jesse was a triple E width and thats the only place I could go. Summer sandals and other shoes when they were older and knew how to really walk I could get elsewhere.

Someone told me about www.endless.com. It's $5 off the store price, has sale prices and free overnight shipping. I bought DD a good pair from there that she wears pretty much every day. She has wide feet so I wanted to get her comfy sneaks!

If you know their size Shoebuy.com always has great sales on Striderite. I just go a pair of summer sandals for $26--normally 36.
