100% yes. Not only to give you piece of mind as an infant but when you transition to a bed it's great to watch them to check on what they are doing when they get out of their bed.

ETA: I have a 2 story house and never used a pack n play on my first floor. My kids slept in their cribs at all times. So it was great to not have to run up the steps to check on them.

We live in a split level. For DD#1 we didnt have any kind of monitor, for DD#2 we got a video monitor and I actually really like having it.

I've never had one for either of my 2 children. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing but I never thought I needed one.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

I had my doubts about it when I registered so I only registered for the audio one...and then when she went from our room to her room I knew I HAD to have it. I could never do without it! Most essential item, IMO

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

We recently went upstate & forgot our video monitor. We purchased an audio one because there were no video ones available. We were lost....so lost that when we got home we purchased one to leave upstate when we go again.

With that said I think you can survive without it since you never had one, but if you get it...you won't be able to go a night without it.

I say yes 100%

There is a world of difference IMO between when your LO is making noises, crying, etc.. and not having to run upstairs or downstairs to see if they are ok and all you have to do is look on the monitor.

I don't know what I would do without mine.

ITA.. It's addicting..

I don't have a video one and honestly don't feel like I need one.

I have just the audio. Love it. I feel like I would be constantly looking at the video if we had one. I can tell the difference in her cries, if I need to go in or can just let her be.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

Ours got terrible reception so we returned it after a week and never replaced it - just used the regular old-fashiones audio monitor.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

IMHO, No. I have an audio and LOVE it, BUTTTTTTT if I had a visual I would ALWAYS be looking and I know me. I would think there were ghosts in her room and freak myself out, I'm crazy...I know, but I would always *think* I saw something.

I never had one for the girls and if I had another one I won't think about getting one.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

When I was pregnant, I decided I didn't want one, and now DS is 13 months, and I still use an audio only Sony Monitor, and it works for what I need. So, no, it wasn't a necessity for me.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

For me, its a must.

Especially when I need to leave DS to play for a while, I leave him in his room (baby proofed to the max) and watch him on the monitor... I love that I can that loud noise is just him banging on something, and not where my imagination goes.

Also he plays quietly after he wakes up, so I want to know if he's awake or sleeping, when its time for him to eat, I want him to eat if he's awake.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

I am absolutely obsessed with our video monitor. It really helps being able to look at them this way you know if you need to go in their room or not - you can gauge how sleepy they are, if they're wide awake, etc etc.

I don't know how people could live without one lol

It's a MUST.

I live in an apartment (co-op) and I use it every.single.day.

It was great when he was a newborn - I could see if he was crying, stirring, sleeping, whatever. And same now that he's a bit older.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

we got one as a gift with #1, I returned it and just got audio.

With #2, I don't even have audio in her room...I keep it in Josh's room to hear if he coughs or something.

They are near me all day, I feel like once I close their door, I need to not see them. I know I would be looking at them, wanting to adjust their blankets

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

I only have an audio monitor and up until recently it had been more than enough. Now DS is pulling himself up to stand in his crib but doesn't know how to sit down yet. When I put him down for a nap or to sleep and he cries, I don't know if he's crying because he's just winding down or if he's stuck standing up. It would be nice to be have the monitor to check instead of having to go in his room and disturbing him.

I had one for a week and decided it was not for us so I returned it...never missed it. I used my angelcare monitor for a long time.

Re: Do I REALLY need video monitor for baby?

I love it. We have a three level split style home. Our bedroom also has a sitting room before where we sleep. DD feels so far away at the other end of the house. It gives me peace of mind.
