Do mammograms hurt? Update - it did not hurt
I have to get one this week. Do they hurt?
eta - I went and it did not hurt! I have larger boobs, pretty dense too. Had to have a sonogram too. It was just uncomfortable. Mine were compressed but there was no way they could flatten them to a pancake thankfully.

it hurts but just for a little bit. they literally take it and smoosh it like a pancake in a plastic vice. And they really do get as flat as a pancake

I wouldn't say mine ever hurt. A little uncomfortable. Pressure. But not pain. If that makes any sense. And only lasts a few seconds for each shot they take.

I have had 3 and none of them hurt. Yes, it is uncomfortable when they squish the boobies but it is over pretty quickly.

It was more uncomfortable than anything. It hurt a little by my rib cage when I was pressing against the machine. That was the only actual pain.
It is still preferable to almost anything a dentist will do, IMO, other than a cleaning.

It's not fun, but it gots to be done 
They are fairly quick and while it's done, yes there is pressure but as long as you stay very still so they get the images on the first tries, you're good!
Once it's over, the pain is gone. It's uncomfortable for a few minutes of your life, that's all.

yes - but it's over quick enough.
I usually pop a couple of advil before my appointment and never ever ever make an appointment for right before or during my period.

More uncomfortable because of the pressure. Doesn't really hurt. Its very quick though. Discomfort is worth it.

Uncomfortable and sometimes pinches when they pull the skin under the arms.
I take tylenol beforehand.
But, it only lasts a few seconds for each of the views they take, and well worth the discomfort.
Nothing to be afraid of.

It didn't hurt me at all. I have large boobs, and the worst part was the tech manhandling them trying to get it on the plate to be squished. The whole process was no more than 10-15 minutes tops.

Depends on who is doing it. I have had private doctors who hurt a lot and also had them done at Sloan Kettering where I was surprised that it didn't hurt much.
