Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
I used to go once in a while to visit my dad...but now that my son is buried in my dad's plot, I go often. I used to go weekly, w/o fail, but I've decided that's just not healthy, so I go at least once every other or every 3rd week.

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
for all holidays and before all big events we used to go ON the holiday but that got too chaotic so we will go the week before usually
we actually used to go every single Sunday growing up, after church and before Sunday dinner.

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
My Grandfather is buried 15 mins from my house in Sayville. I would go every week when he first past. I think him being that close to us makes it harder to NOT go, but for my own mental health, I will only go once a month. Sadly there are A LOT of young people I know who past and they are buried in there too. I make my rounds and leave.

When my aunt and cousin passed away I would go by myself 2ce a month. I would ball my eyes out. I figure it is not healthy. I don't go as much anymore and feel guilty about it

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
I go on or around the 8th of the month every month to visit my brother. I am the only family left in NY who can "take care" of his grave. Besides I feel like I'm going and hanging out with him and we used to get together once a month anyway!

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
i go a lot to visit a friend of mine - he's pretty close by and especially on his birthday, anniversary of his passing and around christmas...
i go to see my grammy and my grandaddy less often b/c they are very far out east in calverton so it's a drive - but i go when i can... my grammy really didn't want us visiting her - she thought it would be too sad and didn't want us to go and be upset but i still do b/c i want to.

No, I feel that I can think about and remember ther person in my own way. Being at the gravesite doesn't make me feel any closer. In actuality, it makes it worse for me because I think about what is happening under the ground.

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
My beloved Grandfather always told me that when he dies (talking about the future), he didn't want me to visit his grave. He said he wouldn't be "there". His soul would be in Heaven, watching over me. He wanted me to remember him in my heart. And I always will.
We sometimes visit my MIL's grave, but not too often.

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
No. Personally, I don't see the point in visiting a piece of ground that has the remains of someone. That's not them any more. I have no problem remembering them, and doing something in honor of them, but to visit their grave defines them as being in the ground, to me.
My Aunt and Uncle really love Florida, and lived there for a few years, but they keep coming back here because so many of their family is buried in NY, and they feel compelled to visit the grave sites often. I don't think that the deceased relatives would want my Aunt and Uncle to change their lives, and not be happy, just so they could visit the graves.
This is one of the reasons that DW and I both want to be cremated. The Afterlife wouldn't be very good if I knew I was forcing family members to give up their dreams just to visit my former body.

I totally understand this sentiment However, when I see graves that no one goes to visit - the ones without flowers or that need to be attended to. . .i feel so bad for them.
i know its dumb bc they are not "there" but i would feel so sad knowing that my grandparents didnt have flowers for Easter or a wreath for Christmas. . .or there gravestone had debris on it . . .that is one of the main reasons I visit

Re: do u go to the cemetary to visit loved ones?
I do, not as often as i should. My paternal grandfather, my maternal grandmother and my uncle are all in the same cemetary and those are really the only relatives that i've lost so i can visit them all at one time. I go maybe 2-3 times a year.
i don't believe they are "there" but i think its a nice sentiment.
