Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
Thank you for your input. I truly appreciated it.

I would be ok with it- and I am little- so most of my pants would be dragging on the floor

I'm not a fan, but more b/c my feet are always cold and I can't wear my warm slippers and heavy socks at other people's houses.

I was thinking about making this a rule when we move & especially once we have a baby in the house but I know my dh would be the first one to break it.

Kids eat at least a pound of dirt before they are 1. Shoes on are off they are still gonna be around dirt!

Most people I know who do this are more concerned with the chemicals you track in, like from the lawn being treated. We don't have this rule inour house but I have some family members that do.

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
DH and I never ever wear shoes in the house. When people come, I never ask them to take shoes off, I just feel really uncomfortable asking them to do that. After they leave I mop the floor bc it grosses me out LOL

I hate being asked to take my shoes off. The only time I ever ask people do do it is if it's terribly wet or snowy out and I don't want it tracked in the apartment.

No, i feel as though guests in my house should be made to feel comfortable and I believe asking people to take off thier shoes puts people in an awkward position.

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
We dont wear shoes in the house- beside the fact I dont want the crap on the bottoms of people shoes in my sons mouth...
I have white/grayish carpets and it shows everything!!!!
However I never ask anyone- I hope that they see that we arent wearing shoes and take them off on their own-
If someone asked me- I would completly understand

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
Well I'm in the minority and rude apparently, our friends know to take their shoes off.
We work hard to keep our house very clean and have beige carpets. We have people over quite often and if we have people over and they always left their shoes on, we'd have to replace our carpet like every year!!
Anyway, everyone knows to take their shoes off and no one seems to have a problem with it.
IMHO if you want to protect your floors, ask them to take off their shoes. If you get scuffs and scratches you will regret it!

Martha Stewart does it
She has little booties by her door for people to wear instead.
We don't wear shoes in my house but I don't ask my guests to take theirs off. Maybe let them know ahead of time that you do this.

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
I'm sorry, I find that doing that puts guests in an awkward position.
What if the person isn't wearing any socks?
I know that when I wear cute heels with jeans, I usually just wear knee-highs, if anything at all. I would be extremely uncomfortable and slightly offended if someone made me walk around the house barefoot. Even if you offered her clean socks, I think she'd be offended.

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
We don't wear shoes in the house and while I have never asked anyone to take them off most people do...some have kids and understand about the baby crawling around ...others I guess just see us without them and do the same. I would never ask though

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
i have no shoe rule in my house, i went to the dollar store and got some cheep slippers for those who like me have cold feet. i do not think it's rude at all. my hard wood floors are very soft and already have a ton of marks in it, people do understand eta: i never ask though. everyone just does it

I don't ask people to take their shoes off, I wouldn't want to make them feel uncomfortable...I just vacuum and mop after people leave .....my family and close friends take their shoes off just because they know I'm really anal about keeping my house clean

Re: Do you ask people to take off their shoes when you have a crowd over?
I do find it rude to ask, and it makes me uncomfortable to do it, but I will take off my shoes if asked.
I have less of a problem with it if your house is carpeted, but recently I had to walk around in socks on hardwood floors and very cold tile floor in the bathroom at someone's house. I was freezing and uncomfortable the whole time and it really put a damper on enjoying myself. I also REALLY dislike going into the bathroom without shoes in someone else's house.
