Just a greeting card.. no gift.
On my side, we do not but DH's side does.

I do usually call to say thank you for the card.
They were thinking about you -- why wouldn't you acknowledge that?

See, i guess i see it differently. I send cards all the time for occasions but never expect a call about it...
And i don't usually call people to thank them for a card. On my bday I get tons of cards from my aunts and DH's aunts. I can't imagine calling them all to say thanks, but i DO appreciate the card!
Now..If i happen to be on the phone with them i will say thank you for the card...but i don't think most people pick up the phone to call and say thank you. If there is a gift, I always call though or write them a thank you

Depends who it's from. My Grandmother...yes. Otherwise I will hear about it.
I don't think the others expect a call. I have emailed or sent a text to say thanks.

No. If I needed to call that person for another reason or saw them soon afterwards, I would mention it and say thank you, but I wouldn't make a special call.

Normally, I do not, but when I receive a card from someone I haven't heard from in a long time I like to send a letter, telling them I appreciate hearing from them. I have three folks, that are overdue for a letter!!! Two are members of LIF!!!! Sorry, I haven't gotten back to you yet!!!   Mary

For a regular thing - birthday, Christmas - no since I'll be talking to them around then anyway and I'll mention it in that conversation.
If it was totally out of the blue, yes.
