Do you consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of Long Island?
I was born and raised in Rockville Centre. Going to the city, was Manhattan.
I know of people from Nassau/Suffolk who consider those 2 counties as Long Island and Queens/Brooklyn are the city.
I know of people who are from Brooklyn/Queens and think of those two as the city and NOT Long Island.
Yes, I am aware that Queens and Brooklyn are two of the five boroughs, but technically, on a map- Queens and Brooklyn are part of Long Island.
What do YOU think?
I ask b/c I am looking to hire someone for their services, they are located in Suffolk county and charge a travel fee for "Off Long Island" (Queens was included in this) for $150-200.

Re: Do you consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of Long Island?
Geographically, yes. We are all on the same island surrounded by the same water. But if someone says I am from LI, I do not ask if they live in Brooklyn or Queens....
A lot of services charge extra to cross the queens border, not for the geography so much I think rather than the increased difficulty in driving/navigating around.

no, I definitely do not.
the 48 states are on one big landmass too. that is what the lines drawn on the map are for. to tell you were one land ends and another begins.

Oddly I don't count them as either.
To me "the city" is Manhattan.
Long Island is Nassau & Suffolk.
Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx are, for some strange reason, an entirely separate entity.

Re: Do you consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of Long Island?
it's geographically part of LI but tax wise and zoning wise it could be different. Also if they are coming from Suffolk to Queens, they may be using that as a mileage fee or transport fee.

No I consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of the city.
But when I say I am going to the city, I mean Mahattan.
When I am going to Queens, I say Queens
Long Island to me is Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Brooklyn girl here ... or at least, I grew up there
To me:
"The City" = Manhattan only "Long Island" = Nassau and Suffolk only "The Boroughs" = All The Rest (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and The Bronx)

Re: Do you consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of Long Island?
I don't need to get on a bridge or take a tunnel to get there so yes.
I don't care who you're governed by, Manhattan is "the city".
Plus I know it really pisses off the Brooklyn and Queens people to be associated with us Lawn Guylanders!!

To me, when the property taxes are significantly lower, thats the city.
Land is land. If the cartographers and government determine that a border indicates it is the city, then it is the city.
I dont know anyone who equates Manhattan with the other boroughs. They are all pretty distinct in what they offer (or don't).

If your city has subways, it's NYC! End of story. Staten Island is lucky we let them hang with us.
Long Island is, well, that land beyond...

Re: Do you consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of Long Island?
Technically, yes. I mean, B and Q are ON the same land mass.
But as an idea, no, LI is Suffolk and Nassau whereas Queens and Brooklyn are part of the 5 boroughs.

No I consider Queens and Brooklyn as part of the city.
But when I say I am going to "the city", I mean Mahattan.
When I am going to Queens, I say Queens (or the name of the neighborhood), when I am going to Brooklyn, I saw Brooklyn (or the name of the neighborhood), when I am going to the Bronx, I say the Bronx.
Long Island to me is Nassau and Suffolk counties.

It's not a subway..it's a Railway - doesn't go under ground....so they don't count.
I consider SI Jersey...

I believe that it's an above-ground railway, and not a 'sub'way, but I'll give y'all the benefit of the doubt.

Technically, but not really. Brooklyn and Queens are a part of NYC in every way, just aren't attached. And Manhattan isn't attached to anything, either.
