Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
I have quite a few items that I have put and want to put on my registry that are kind of expensive. I have done a lot of research into the best products and some are $$$. I don't want people to think I'm being greedy, and at the same time I don't want to put things that I don't really want on to make people happy. It is okay if no one buys these items, since Dh and I will buy them ourselves after the shower.
Expensive items include: Stroller Car Seat Monitor High Chair Swing
That is pretty much it for real expensive items.

some things yes, some things no.
Honestly, I did research as well and found the most expensive items are def. not the highest rated.
JMO, but why spend $700 on a stroller when in 2 years hopefully I'll need to upgrade to a double stroller anway, you know what I mean?

We have a few things that are expensive on teh registry but then a whole bunch of smaller items.
A lot of times people go in together to get the bigger gifts. I would rather register for somthign that I am happy with quality wise than something cheaper that may not be as functional or may break sooner.

You are right, not all the expensive items where highest rated, but some where. I read the baby bargain book. Oh trust me, I don't have a $700 stroller on my registry. I would probably only get an expensive stroller like that if I lived in the city.

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
As long as you have enough inexpensive things on your registry I think it is fine to put the $$ stuff on there. Just don't expect to get them!

I figured people might go in together with the big items. I'm only talking small price differences such as the high chair I want is $139 compared to most that are $80-100.

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
I don't think a $139 high chair is too expensive. I know there are high chairs well into the $200, I personally find that a little overpriced. I think items over the $200 range (with the exception of travel systems/car seats/strollers) are a little excessive.

That is pretty much it for real expensive items.
our list of items included: organic mattress ($270) stroller ($450) high chair ($180) pack-n-play ($170) carseats weren't the MOST expensive, but they were both over $150 each
well, here was our rationale. I maintained the 2 registries online... and kept peeking and making sure there were ample items in every price range. this worked out well.... we got almost everything on the amazon registry, and 80% from the BRU registry (came to find out that the remaining 20% was basically not available can't stand that store!)
well before the shower, DH and I bought the infant carseat and the stroller (the biggest ticket item!). this left 4 big ticket items.
the other carseat was purchased very early on as a gift.... the mattress and high chair were actually given to us at our work shower (they were amazingly generous... )
so in the end, everything was shockingly purchased except for the pack-n-play. We inherited a good travel one, and bought a $$ one ourselves for moms house. (I'm not counting the pump in this discussion becuase of the 'tabu' involved... also bought that myself!)

no, I have things at all different price levels on my registry. If someone wants to buy something expensive, they can. If they don't want to spend that much, there are many other things they can buy.
I went with a lot of the highly rated things as well. Also, I have to have a double stroller, so that is expensive. I also need two of things - like car seats.

As long as you have things at multiple price points for people to choose from (and you will) I wouldn't worry about it.

i completely agree!!! and to me the most important items are the stroller, and car seat... those tend to cost more unfortunately

I wouldn't worry then at all! I think that's totally reasonable!

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
I don't feel guilty at all. Most of the items on my registry are under $25 or $50. People have plenty of items at all different price ranges to choose from. For me, safety and high ratings are very important. If that means some of the items are more expensive, that's fine with me. I can always buy them if no one buys them for me.
You never know how generous people will be. Also, a group of people may chip in on an expensive item. I haven't received any items yet, but a majority of the most expensive items I registered for have already been purchased.

No. I feel like if something is expensive, more than one person can chip in and buy it!

Okay, you all made me feel better. I looked at my registry and my wish list at BRU (Didn't register yet) and I have plenty of items that are $50 and less.

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
My mom always reminds me that registries are "wish lists" meaning pick out what you want (while being mindful of having items in all price points) and see what happens. All of the big things are what is actually off my registry-people like to feel they are giving something "significant" even if it means chipping in with a bunch of other people!
Btw, a lot of this stuff is just expensive... I don't think you are being greedy.

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
Here is the issue I ran into... what I considered 'expensive' and what others do were two totally different things. I assumed things I was picking were way too much money and I felt a little wrong for registering for them..... but then I got harrassed by close family for not choosing more expensive things!! Also keep in mind if you have younger people in your family, they might not have the financial means to spend lots... so register for things in a broad price range and let people decide for themselves.
Choose what you like, and what has good ratings. If no one buys them, hey, at least you picked out what you really would have liked and you can buy one thing at a time with DH afterwads.
Good luck and have fun!

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
I say it depends on your situation. If you really think your family (esp immediate family) cannot afford certain things, I would pick a less expensive item if there was one available (as long as it was still good/safe).
For me, no, not at all. I did a lot of research and picked top rated items, many were on the higher end of the price range. I know my family can afford it. In addition, no one has to buy what they can't afford. There are plenty of items to choose from on the list for those who are not going to spend alot (extended family). But if my immediate family was on a budget (the people buying the big items that is), then maybe I would have scaled it down a bit and picked less expensive items. In fact, the most expensive items were already bought before my shower invites even went out. B/w my mom, MIL, Aunts, Siblings, all of our big items were purchased already and were def within normal limits for my family.

Re: Do you feel guilty putting expensive things on your registry?
NOPE!! I know my brother, sister, etc will be buying some of the bigger items PLUS I want them on there so I can get the extra percentage off in the end after the shower is over!!!!
