Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
A half hour wouldn't bother me. If it got to 45 minutes, I'd start to get bothered.

Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
It bugs me. I understand why it happens, but I hate just having to sit there and wait. I can think of a million more productive things I could be doing with my time.

It's my biggest pet peeve! I've actually switched doctors because of it. Good for you for leaving.
Well... Unfortunately I'm still in need of a root canal and need to wait for an appt with my old dentist (this one was new).

Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
Always wait at the dentist. I make it a point to call and see ow behind they are. Even then I will still wait when I get there. I hate it but will not trade this dentist for anything. I am one of his "problem" patients. I take forever to get numb, I don't stay numb long, etc. I see he blocks off 2 hours for me but end up going longer at times.
For my regular doctor's visit I HATE when I wait more than a haf hour. Mostly because I know I will be with him for 10-15 minutes. But I understand things happen.

I have waited up to 3 hours. WHY because you would not want the dr. to say well i am sorry your time is up and I cant answer your questions or address your concerns anymore. NEXT. What if that person before you just found out they had something major wrong with them, WHAT IF IT WAS YOU? Would you want the dr to say that to you? I have seen it happen before. I stopped complaining then. So the next time you complain think of WHAT MIGHT be going on. Also If 1 PT is late to an appointment it makes the roll balling for everyone to be seen late. So try never to be the one who is going to be late and if you are call and let them know you are running late. ALSO 30 mins is NOT a long time. If you cant expect to sit and wait at a dr.s office then DONT GO. Sorry I deal with it all day long at work. I am tired of the complaining . If you cant wait then reschedule. MINIMUM TIME AT ANY DR IS 1 HOUR(walk in to walk out). Leave ENOUGH TIME between things to get stuff done.
3 hours!
That shows the doctor has absolutely NO RESPECT for his customers and their time.
The only way I wait 3 hours is if the doctor is the only specialist within 150 miles of my home/office.

ITA!!! Clearly, you're angry Janet, not exactly sure why you're yelling? But I guess that job has you feeling like it's the patients fault. An hour wait to see any doctor is NOT the norm. It may be for a particular Dr or the one you work for, but it's not the norm for all Drs. I understand once in a while when situations arise, but not every single time you go.
Don't get upset at the people complaining....you never know what situation they left at home to be there for an appointment that they likely cleared their schedule for months ago, got a sitter, who they NEED to be able to be home for in reasonable amount of time for, etc

Agreed. An office that makes people wait longer than 30 minutes is not an office I would return to.
And I would let them know. I am the customer and I can take my business somewhere else and I have.
Most of my doctors run pretty on time.
The ones that make me wait for hours are fired.

WOW... where to start with this? I'm not sure if you realized I was at the dentist which I don't think anyone in their right mind would wait 3 hours for. Questions and concerns are for consultations. When I go into the dentist I know what's going to happen and I expect that it gets done in the alotted time otherwise another appt. is made to finish up what couldn't get done in time. Thirty minutes is not a long time I guess in some peoples mind but I didn't expect to be treated so rudely sitting in front of the receptionist area. A simple "we're running behind, sorry, blah blah blah" would have sufficed. No I don't expect to wait as long as I did THAT WAS JUST FLAT OUT RUDE! And if my appointment is the first appt time how is it MY fault that 53 minutes later I'm still not seen? Maybe the dentist didn't feel the responsibilty of being at work on time, who knows. Again a simple explanation would have sufficed. I feel bad for those who wait long times at doctors. I have waited in the past but there are PLENTY of great doctors who don't make it a practice of having you wait longer than 15-20 minutes (and I use all of them!)

We wait because they always double book patients.
NOT TRUE
They are given 15 mins with every pt. SO IF ONE has a problem OR IF ONE IS LATE there is YOUR PROBLEM!!
That's your dentist. I know my dentist double books which is why I don't go there anymore.
I know for a FACT that my OB TRIPLE books appts. How do I know this? Because I signed in for him one time and there were 2 other girls signed in for him - all with the same 5 pm appt time. Hmmmm

Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
I know my dentist double books since I heard the lady at the front desk on the phone and she said "o no sorry we are already double booked for both those times how about 5pm we still have one more spot for that time" there is only 1 dentist in the office so clearly they double book.
I have waiting for 2 hours at a specialist office but for a regular doc or dentist I would not wait longer then 45mins w/out complaining or leaving. Like others said im not paying a babysitter so I can wait in ur waiting room for hours.

Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
A doctor booking appointments every 15 minutes is almost the same as double booking. At that point, stop being greedy and stop accepting new patients. I know an attorney who books 15 minute consultations and I think that's ridiculous.

ITA. Very little can be accomplished in such a short time and to book appointments that closely together is just asking for a back up.

anything more than a half hour I start to get ticked. If it's more than 45 min I am fuming. I switched doctors because of this...

Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
I hate the waiting as well.
I can totally understand if it's a once in a while thing. But an every single time thing.. that to me shows a problem in the way they book the appts. And I'm sure a lot of the times the receptionists are listening to what someone else tells them to do (office manager or perhaps the dr's themselves).
I would ONLY wait if I knew it was a really good dr. I waited a lot for Dr B... and though it wasn't fun at all... once I was in the office with him, he gave me undivided attention and I never once felt rushed in there. I've gone to other dr offices where they had you wait for a long time with every single appt and then when you FINALLY got in to see them, they rushed you. Not cool in my book.
Then there are dr offices where they must be doing something right because there's hardly ever a wait. Maybe more offices should take a page out of their book!!
the patient's time is just as valuable!! Sometimes you have people scheduling appts on their lunch breaks - sure they put in for extra lunch time that day... but spending a half a day between traveling, waiting, the appt, and traveling back is ridiculous. And I don't see how it's an hour from the time you walk in to walk out if you are waiting an hr before even being seen.
I wouldn't ever wait 3 hours for an appt... there would have to be extenuating circumstances for that to happen. Seriously?? 3 hours!!!! NO WAY!!! that's INSANE to me! At that point the dr should start taking $ off for your wait time (it could counteract your babysitter charges).

Doesn't matter - the doctors still show up late to the first appt of the day.

Re: Do you get angry when doctor's make you wait a while
My former ob/gyn switched practices because she was so tired of seeing patients every 10-15 minutes, sometimes 40 a day. She said the first thing she said when she walked into the exam room was 'sorry for the wait'. She is now at a smaller practice and sees less than half of that now and a lot happier.
