Re: Do you have insurance on your engagement ring?
I think I paid $180 last year?
its a personal property insurance policy - but once we close on our house, we will put it as a rider to our homeowners.
but it all depends on your deductible (i picked the highest one, which means lower insurance cost) and I have a replacement policy.
eta: CHubb is 4% of the appraised value? per year? thats INSANE

Not sure how much extra I pay... my engagement and wedding rings are riders on my renter's insurance.

Re: Do you have insurance on your engagement ring?
State Farm- $350 total for the year.
The way companies price is different with each agency- State Farm charges you based on the appraised value of the ring... In the event of you actually losing the ring or it getting stolen- they will replace the ring itself exactly the way it is described on the GIA certificate- grade, cut, clarity, color, size, etc. It's a good idea to have your jeweler "low ball" the appraisal so your premiums are not that high- b/c in the event of, god forbid, you lose it then they replace it regardless based on the GIA certificate- not on the actual appraised value. They just use the value to determine how much to charge you for a premium. HTH!

We put it on my Allstate policy, honestly, no idea how much we pay right now but it's too much.

Re: Do you have insurance on your engagement ring?
Hi Gals!
Just so you know- I have a 2% policy discount because I've never had a claim.
I recently found out that the insurance covers maintenance on the items. I never knew that. I probably have spent $50 a year on things like prong-tightening,.
Here is the info on the rate sheet I have:
for those who live in Nassau county NY:
for an individual item valued at $14,999 or less, it would be $2 per $100 (ex: $14,000 item x .02= $299.98 per year for the item)
for those in NJ, it would be $1.75 for an individual item valued at $14,999 or less (ex: $14,000 x .0175=$245)
Don't overinflate your values. JM doesn't have a deductible and since you're paying for the value of the item, if you inflate it, you'd just be wasting money.
I actually had the value of my watch lowered because my policy replaces the item and my watch is 6 years old now. So, they'd purchase a pre-owned one at this point. So, my watch is appraised for the value that a pre-owned one would cost right now.

Re: Do you have insurance on your engagement ring?
$300 per term for a $15K ring? that seems high - ill check to see the deductable.
eta: ah there is no deductable. then i would say thats pretty reasonable!

We have jewelers mutual and pay about 500 bucks a year. Seems like a lot, but the peace of mind is worth it.

We have Jewelers Mutual too - the guy who appraised the ring recommended it. I believe it was just a little over $100. Speaking of which, I need to renew it!

Re: Do you have insurance on your engagement ring?
Absolutely...I lost my engagement ring while on my bachlorette party back in Sept in Puerto Rico...the feeling that comes over you when you realize you lost it...I can't even explain it...it was terrible...thank goodness I had insurance on it -
I received a check from the insurance company within 3 weeks and I just received my new ring last week - just in time for my wedding next week...
I believe I pay around $275 - $300 a year to have it insured...it is WORTH every penny...
