Maybe we're still considered young & fun.....Chat Icon Chat Icon . even though we're married and have 2 young kids..... but I'd never dare mix our friends with our parents, even though they know each other.

I wouldn't because I feel like my friends would feel uncomfortable and couldn't act/talk the way they usually would, KWIM?

I have a friend that actually bought an ice luge once for shots. I can't imagine partaking in such a thing in front of my mama!Chat Icon

However, if it was a formal event like a christening or something, then yes, they'd be mixed. But for a random bbq? No.

Re: Do you invite your parents to everything

not to everything... but a lot of stuff... my friends and my parents have a pretty comfortable relationship...

ETA: they rarely come though.... my dad doesnt drink anymore... and my mom will have 1 or 2 pina coladas or something...

Re: Do you invite your parents to everything

Not if we are having just friends over or if I am just having DH family over. My parents would have nothing to talk about with my friends and well the last time I had dinner at my home with DH family and mine it was hell. My parents sat in one corner and didn't really mingle and talked only when talked to. It was embarrassing.

Luckily I don't have to worry much about it since my parents NEVER want to come over to my house for anything.Chat Icon

No.I have no serious objections to it, but I like having friend time separate unless it's a family event. I will invite my mom to come to the movies with girlfriends.

For barbecues and holidays yes, since we host most of them. However, if we are just having our friends over to hang out and chill for the night, then no (and vice versa). We have both groups over separately in addition to all of the togetherness.

Same here, I only have them stop by if it is an occasion.

If it is a large group of people, then yes. If it is just a couple or two, then no.

If its a party or something, yeah definitely...they came to our Super Bowl Party 2 years ago and it was great Chat Icon

If we're just having some friends over for a casual night....definitely not.

Re: Do you invite your parents to everything

No. I invite them when we have family things, but if we have "friend" parties, where I know it's going to be a little crazy,I do not invite my parents. Honestly, I could probably invite my Mom, but not my Dad and his wife.

Re: Do you invite your parents to everything

No...I was not raised in this type of environment. My parents had their friends and I had mine. My IL's have a different thought and have actually gotten upset at DH & I for not inviting them when we do things w/our friends or inviting them on vacations.

Its a very odd situation.......

Re: Do you invite your parents to everything

Not everything, but like my DH threw me a surprise birthday party in the house last year and had everyone dress up 70s/disco themed. My parents were invited but didn't come. My sister and brother did though.

ditto
funny, my parents are a lot of fun and they do enjoy drinking, but they also have their own lives and nights out with friends. If it's just friends over then they don't even think about inviting themselves. My mom would actually pick something up or help, but they go out a lot on their own.
