Do you know how much your Engagement Ring Cost?
He refuses to tell me how much he paid! Not that it really matters, I have the appraisal, but i'm just curious.

We didn't shop together for it, it was a total surprise... so I don't know the exact number. But he accidentally made a comment once after we got engaged, that gave me a rough idea of the price range

When I found out how much he spent I was shocked. So not like him. I think my MIL had a lot to do with it

Other - I don't know the exact amount, just an around about $$$. I have the appraisal, and he paid much much less!
I really didn't care how much he spent, he got a beautiful center diamond and a simple but "me" setting. For all I cared, he could have gotten it from a cracker jack box !!!

I did get it appraised and he said he paid a lot less that appraisal.

Sorry to hijack but should I get mine appraised? If so, what for, insurance purposes?
To answer the question, other, because it's a family heirloom diamond. It's an old European cut diamond that's been in my dads family for many years. After he died, I sold his wedding band and some other pieces for the band and had the diamond put in. There were 2 other family diamonds that my sister and I had made into necklaces so that we can always wear a reminder of him everyday.

Yes, because DH put it on his mom's credit card and I wound up making sure he paid her back every penny. LOL

Yes, I know how much the setting cost because I was with him when we went looking. The center diamond is from my grandmothers engagement ring. I was still very surprised when he proposed with it because I had no idea he was going to propose so soon. I also have the appraisal.
To the poster who asked if they should get the ring appraised...yes and it is for your home insurance purposes. It was a separate binder that we added to our homeowners policy. I had to provide a copy of the appraisal to them for the binder. God forbid we are robbed and the ring is taken we are covered for the replacement cost of the ring.

Bec I only found out last week - he would never tell me early on..then i forgot to ask all these years (been married almost 8 yrs) and my brother just went purchasing for his and i ask my DH and he actually told me...I was surprised!

yes, I picked it out. we were together when we put it together (we bought the stone separately)
also b/c I wanted to make sure he didn't pay to much. our love is our love, but his debt becomes my debt
thankfully sapphires are not nearly as $$ as diamonds.
besides, since it is lost someplace on the island of Oahu, it hurt the pocket a lot less than it hurt my heart to see it go.
