Do you like front or top load washer/dryers?

We have a $2000 GE budget from our home builder for a washer and dryer.

I've never bought a washer/dryer before. I thought top load was easier but that is all I am used to. All the newer models seem to be front load.

Re: Do you like front or top load washer/dryers?

I have two sets of washer/dryers in my house. I have a front loader Maytag washer and dryer in my basement. I also have a Whirlpool Cabrio top loader and matching Whirlpool Cabrio front loading dryer on my second floor.

I feel I can stuff more in the front loader. Whenever I put bulky items in my top loader (or stuff it pretty good with a lot of heavy things like towels) it starts to shake and it will pause the load.

They are both good. I'd probably prefer the front loaders if I had to choose. I think they clean better. The top loader is more convenient for loading (not bending over).

I never thought I liked front loaders until I got them. Now I love them!

I have Kenmore front loaders. I really like them. They are definitely roomy -- I have no problem doing very large loads, and heavy duty items like comforters.

One thing I learned is that, with front loaders, you need to put small items (e.g., baby socks) in a mesh bag. Otherwise, they can get caught in the seal around the door and cause a problem. This happened to me early on, because I was throwing the baby socks in loose, and the repairman said that it's a common issue with the front loaders (baby socks causing the rubber seal to break and leak). It was an easy fix, but word to the wise...

I have the Whirlpool Duet front loaders and LOVE them. My parents have front loaders and they hate them....it really depends on the brand. They spent probably 2x what I did and they just don;t work as nice as mine.

My mom has GE appliances, she got them when she worked for GE. She got a top loader without the agitator and it is ENORMOUS inside. She washes her king size comforter with no issue.

I think this is the one she got.

We had a top loader in our first apartment and it was awful to do laundry with because DH is 6'9" and his clothes are HUGE. The things was always getting unbalanced in the middle of the loads and I would be up to my elbows in water trying to balance it out. Now we have a front loader. Its great. Just have to make sure to dry it out and leave the door open after using it so it doesn't get that moldy smell.

I had a top load for about 2 years before we got front loaders.. and after having a front loader I dont think I'd ever get another top loader

Unfortunately our semi new machines just crapped out on us.. Frigidaire Affinity washer and dryer. We ordered the new Electrolux IQ Touch machines and they will be here tomorrow.. cant wait to try out the 18 minute wash and dry cycles!!!

I hate my front loader. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but everything falls out when I take it out after a load is done. I always have to have a basket to catch anything that falls out.

YES!!!!! My front loader eats my DS' socks once in a blue moon and then they come out all dirty when I find them in the seal.

Never thought to put them in a mesh bag. Nice tip, thanks!

Just recently got GE top loaders and I looooove them. Spent $2K on the set. For the money, I could not find front loaders with as much capacity without spending way more money. I wanted huge capacity and I got it. You would not believe how much laundry I can fit in my washer and dryer. Very happy with my decision, I love them!!.........they clean our laundry beautifully. BEST feature is the steam dryer. It is awesome, never have to iron again. Chat Icon

Edit........washer has no agitator

I have a top loader. I've always heard that front loaders start to smell and also that they don't clean as well.
