2 friends of mine died in a drunk dirving accident 14 years ago. Driver of the car they were in did not get charged with DWI.

Yes, I know many people that have DWIs, some with more than 1. I know people who have lost their lives and have been injured in drunk driving accidents. They were all the drivers.

Of my four in-laws (DH's parents are both re-married), two have had alcohol-related driving issues One has had 2 DUIs and had the license suspended, and another thinks it's totally okay to have 3 or 4 drinks with dinner and then drive home. That second IL's philosophy is, "If I'm walking and talking just fine, why can't I drive? I drink every night; I'm good at it." It's very awkward for me to refuse to get in a car with this person, but I have had to more than once. And THIS in-law wasn't the one who was arrested!
Scary stuff.

Yes a few. More close to home though- my sister lost her husband and she was nearly killed when one of their friends drove drunk.

yes a know a few ppl that have recived DUI and DWI i think they all learned from there experience and hope they would never let it happen agian.

Yes, my uncle....I'm no longer in contact him after a few really horrible decisions he's made, one of them being his drinking.
And another family member....he was never officially charged with DUI, but he was....and I'm still angry that he was able to crash his car and not get arrested for it...because he hasn't learned.

I dont know anyone who has gotten a dui/dwi that I can think of....but my cousin was killed when I was 13 while drinking and driving ( he was 19) and injured the 2 people in his truck badly.
Eta- and I also know 3 people at least closely that drink and drive quite often and I have such pity and fear for them and ME. One is a relative of DH's and once sent a text saying he was having a " liquid lunch" and then a few minutes later said he was pretty messed up....um how do you think he got home? YEP  ...I actually havent spoken to this person, besides this reason alone, I think they are disgusting. I care about me and my 3 kids in the car next to him more then him and it scares me.

Thought i don't know anyone who was seriously injured due to this... I do have a few friends who have gotten a DWI or DUI.
I can't say anyone I know has received multiple DWI's or DUI's... but overall I can count at least 5 people I know that have gotten at least one.
Also, my mother has a friend who is engaged to a serious alcoholic. I'm pretty positive he drives drunk on a daily basis!! He was exiting the church on my wedding day (started at 3pm and ended about 4pm) and he WREAKED of alcohol!!! He wasn't drinking in the church so he must have drank before the church to smell that much!! I'm pretty positive he was driving that day too. He has had an accident (I only know of 1) and been arrested in the accident. But I don't think he hit anyone and he wasn't hurt either. Terrible!!!
Some of these stories you guys have are just heart breaking!!

He got 3 DWIs and the last one was shortly after his 2nd. He still had a cast on his hand from injuries in that accident when, in the 3rd accident, he killed our mutual friend. Edwin died while wrapped up between the car door and a telephone pole. His parents were able to say goodbye and say I love you before he finally just died from blood loss on the scene.
My drunk idiot friend was able to smash the windshield and crawl out to get help. Edwin was crushed by the pole they hit. My other friend in the back seat had both legs crushed and his face cut from the temple, behind his ear and down his throat.
All during Christmas break my senior year.
It has forever affected my view on drinking and driving.
WOW that's intense!!! You couldn't possibly not be affected by this story. Insane!!!!

I knew someone who was arrested for a DWI because he was drunk and got kicked out of a bar and went to wait in his friend's car until they were ready to go home and because he put the keys in the ignition to listen to the radio and he was behind the wheel, he was arrested. Apparently there were cops waiting outside the bar to snab people. He was the last guy in the world who would ever drive drunk, and he didn't even drive, but because he was behind the wheel and the keys were in the ignition, he was arrested. He ended up getting out of the charges, but that's the only person I know of.

Actually I didn't think I did until last year when I found out that one of DH's good friends who I cannot stand got busted for driving totally wasted and high on coke. I was so disgusted that I told DH no way in hellz is he allowed in our home anymore. He agreed and has all but stopped hanging out with him.

I don't know anyone personally (friend or family) who has been arrested for DUI or DWI, but I am very happy to report that I have taken MANY people away in handcuffs for DWI and Vehicular Assault, myself.

My friend, a passenger, was killed when I was in HS by his "friend" who was drunk. So, yeah he got a DWI.
And I guess you could count the guy that Ken pulled over as well as the guy that then hit him. They both got DWIs.
I don't think I have any friends that have -- not that I know of? I don't know anyone in the fam - unless I'm unaware. I know drinking and driving was something me, my sister, and Kenneth never took part in. My parents put the fear of God in all of us for EVERYTHING in life lol. DH never did either - wasn't something he ever thought to do.

Unfortunately, DH's friend was driving drunk a couple of years ago and ended up going the wrong way on the highway. Crashed head on into another car killing himself and the other driver. He left behind a wife and little girl (DH's friend). The other driver was just a young kid
That incident gave me a new perspective on drunk driving. The decision he made was a terrible, awful decision that took two lives and destroyed many others. I don't condone what he did in the slightest, it's a tragedy. But he wasn't a bad person, he just made a bad decision. He wasn't an alcoholic and to our knowledge was never the type to drink and drive. It was stunning to see how one bad night could change everything. And now his poor little girl has to grow up without her father
