Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

I am undecided if I want to burn vacation/personal days before my due date.

I just got my paperwork for maternity leave. I can't believe I am going to have a baby next month! Chat Icon

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

Definitely. I drive from LI to lower Manhattan every day for a total of 75 miles and 3-4 hrs a day. I'm only 25 wks now and it's already getting difficult.

No, I want to work right up to the pt that I can... I only get 12 weeks maternity leave and want to use every moment with the baby. I wish our maternity leave was longer and I'd love to take some time off b4 the baby just to relax, prepare the house, get stuff done, etc

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

I took off 2 weeks before my due date. In retrospect, I wish I worked until the end (if only from home!) because I went on my actual due date.

The extra two paychecks could've definitely helped.

I also got nutty waiting during that time. Work would've helped me to occupy my brain.

Everyone felt I did the right thing though so who knows!

I get 12 weeks maternity leave so I will be leaving a week before my scheduled c-section.

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

I won't have to use many of my sick days after my due date because it is so close to the end of the school year. So I may try to take off a week before my due date.

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

I am going to try to work up until the very last day so I can use my vacation time for maternity leave. I will use my sick days up because I know I will need some mental health days from now until August but aside from that no.

Not unless it becomes unbearable or dangerous...I would rather be home with the baby when he / she is born!

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

I get about 9 months paid mat leave, so I will probably try to finish working about 3 weeks before my due date. I will be off for a year in total, so a few weeks won't make much of a difference.

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

am planning on working as long as i can. I drive to work and i am at a desk most of the day , so I don't have to commute on a train which I can imagine must not be comfortable at all .

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

My doctor advised me to take off the two weeks before my due date, but I don't think I will unless I really can't work for some reason. I think I'll go nuts just sitting around at home for two weeks. I might just take off the last couple of days.

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

I took a month off mostly because I was just burning my own sick time once my doc signed me out and I wanted to spend it with my DD.
I don't regret it BUT I am still getting paid up until 6 weeks after delivery so that had a lot to do with it.

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

Only if my Dr orders me to...Otherwise I plan on working til the day I go into labor. My commute is only 6 miles round trip & since I only get NYS disability for my leave, I want it when the baby is here Chat Icon

Re: Do you plan to take time off before your due date?

My job only gives me 6 weeks maternity leave so I plan on working right up until the day I deliver. But I also work at an office in the hospital where I am going to deliver and my Dr.'s office is downstairs from my office.
