Do you serve alcohol at an afternoon first bday party?

I know we wouldn't be serving liquor but what about beer and wine?

Is it cheesy to only have soda etc.?

Or maybe just a bowl of some punch/ sangria?

What's the norm?

I am considering having the party at an Elk's Lodge- but a pretty nice one where people have engagement parties, etc. If u want booze u have to use their bar and then pay the tab. I don't want to be a grouch but it could get very costly b/c it's not like I'd be bringing my own beer and wine- they charge like 4 bucks each. ETA- There will be over 100 adults so if most people have a few drinks at 4 a pop we could be looking at like 600+

I feel like a lot of people who normally wouldn't be interested in a drink just have a few b/c it's there and I don't want to encourage that, lol.

I almost always offer some beer or those hard lemonade drinks at any party, I'll add wine if it's evening so My vote it to offer something. I would think the tab wouldn't be too bad for a kids birthday party, but it varies based on your crowd.

We had ours at home, but it wasn't really a kiddie party. Mostly adults, 5 children. We had beer, wine and strawberry blinis ("the official drink of Tristan's 1st Birthday!" Chat Icon Chat Icon )

yup, same here. We had it in my parent's backyard. Cooler of beer. We also put out vodka and other juices for pple to mix it with. Not like anyone was doing shots. Just some screwdrivers or vodka and cran. Most pple had beer.

I agree. I replied quickly before. I think it would be insane to pay that much. Can they offer a cash bar option? If someone really wants a drink that afternoon they will pay and I don't think you would look bad at all. I would not pay that much for it.

Re: Do you serve alcohol at an afternoon first bday party?

We did, but it was a back yard BBQ and just beer. If we had had to pay a tab, I highly doubt we would have done itChat Icon

Re: Do you serve alcohol at an afternoon first bday party?

I'm not planning on having any alcohol at DS' 1st bday. I have a personal reason for not having it and although some people may be peeved, I could care less. Do what you are comfortable with and quite frankly, it sounds like it could make your event expensive.

We will be having beer and wine at DDs 1st birthday party but I don't think it's a big deal not to. Or as an above poster mentioned, maybe do a cash bar.
