I prefer to keep them closed, but the thermostat is in our room, so we have to open our door and DH thinks the heat is dispersed better if all the door are open.

We sleep with DD's door closed all the time. And our door is usually closed.

Re: Do you sleep with your and dc doors opened or closed?

We always sleep with out doors closed. At our apartment we had 3 cats and we didn't want them in their room so we kept the door closed at all times.

Now that we live with my ILs we still keep the doors closed because DD#1 is in a bed and we don't want her wandering the house. Also the bedrooms are very close together and my MIL gets up very early and I don't want them to hear her and be up at 5:30am.

I remember that fear.

I can't leave her door open though because of our cats (bigger fear) so I used to keep it cracked open with a shoe to prevent the cats from pushing it open.

Now its closed. Its better for her because its darker and quieter with the door closed (in my mind)

But yeah, it took a bit of getting used to.

MY door is open. Again, cats. They use our bench as a lounge area.

for 6 months our DS would wake at the same time, like 4 AM every morning in hysterics . One day I decided to get up and watch him to see what the issue was ( he didn't want his bottle) it was the damn cat scratching and playing with the dust ruffle on his cribChat Icon Chat Icon

Yeah, Jim was in there changing her and didn't realize one snuck in. He closed the door and around 4am she woke up SCREAMING. I got in there and she looked terrified. Pointing at a corner. I'm expecting to see a ghost or moving toy. Instead I'm chilled to see a perfectly still-as-stone cat sitting there staring at her. Cat was backlit but the nightlight and it was damned creepy.

Now we do a cat count before bedtime. Locate both kitty cats before her door is closed.Chat Icon

Both are always closed due to the risk of fire.

My house burned down about 10 years ago. Had I not had my door closed, I would have died from smoke inhalation (it was overnight and the smoke detectors failed)

this is my worst fear, I'm going to keep both doors shut! I also just checked all my detectors.

Closed. My brother is a firefighter and is adamant about it. I have an angelcare and a video monitor which makes me feel comfortable with it.

Closed - we have smoke alarms in the bedroom - I believe it's the new building code.

I don't know why but the image of that in my head totally made me Chat Icon .

We keep ours open (also b/c of our cats - if we didn't at least one would tunnel underneath to get to us.)
And we keep DS closed for the same reason - I can totally see one or both of the cats waking him up by jumping on the window sill, ripping up the carpet, maybe trying to sleep with DS, etc.

Ours is closed and our son's will be closed, mainly to keep out the cats. But is better to keep it closed in case of fire.

Re: Do you sleep with your and dc doors opened or closed?

All our bedroom doors are open at night. We have hard-wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in every bedroom. We also have them in the kitchen, living room, basement and hallways.

Ours is open for the animals and DS's is closed for fire safety reasons...he also has a smoke detector in his room.

Re: Do you sleep with your and dc doors opened or closed?

Because of fire safety (and we have a cat), DS's door gets closed at bedtime. Ours stays slightly ajar so that the cat can come and go.
