If it were a friend, I wouldn't think it's rude. I probably wouldn't ask someone, but wouldn't mind if they did.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. However, I would NEVER ask someone else that question. I just don't give a crap when it comes to me because I have nothing to hide for any reason. Not to mention, I got a sick deal on my house and I'm proud of getting itChat Icon

If someone (usually parents or family) asks me how much an item cost, I usually respond, "Not more than we can afford, so we're happy with it." If they continue, I say, "Don't worry, we did our homework and got a good deal." or if they're snippy, "Why, are you thinking of buying one? Or just being nosy?" Chat Icon

As far as anything else - bills, salary, etc. - I just tell them that I only discuss my finances with my husband and hope they can respect that.

It depends on who's asking.
Some people are just curious and want to know.
Other people just want to "judge" you.

I think it is rude. We "told" immediate family (they did not ask) b/c we wanted their help and advice, anyone else can look it up if they want to know our business.

I only had 1 person ask me-someone at work who I am not even friendly with. When she asked how much we got the house for I told her "It is an amount that we can afford"

I don't find it rude. People are curious, so let them ask. They could find out easily over the internet anyway.
