wow - and where did you learn all this?
well if you must know, I do have a degree in history and I am working on a PhD in History at Stony Brook, so between lectures, readings, seminars, research, and many years of teaching I can say that I am well educated in history.
I won't go tit for tat with your arguments, since I am going to bed. I am well aware of the alliances that have occurred throughout history and with dealing with the Middle East. My omission of events was not for deception, but to keep the post short. The point wasn't to discuss the conflict, but what events contributed to a negative US image in the Middle East. Of course the US acted/reacted in it's best interest and perhaps those actions/reactions were justified, but they happened and there were reactions to those US actions. It's arguing the chicken and the egg and we can go back to the Crusades...or why not to Abraham and Ishmael.
I had no intension to be snarky, but it seems (from your tone) that you took it to be that way. I actually think/thought that the US military would give a short history of the region before they send people who are risking their lives over it. well I am very sorry that you are so misinformed. I am not being confrontational, but when I refuted your post, I stated documented historical facts.
and what makes you assume that the US military doesn't give briefings? what gives you the right to be so condescending to someone who has fought in Iraq while you're teaching in your safe college classroom?
Thx sweetest i appreciate the back-up

It was not my intention to be condescending in my first post. If it sounded that way, I apologize. Tommy asked what the US did negatively toward the region. I was responding to that. I took his comments serious instead of sarcastically.
I never said that you didn't state facts, I merely posted only the negative aspects of US policy towards the ME. (Now who's being condescending?) I was just trying to put perspective on why the region might dislike us. Like I say, while many Americans (like you and even me) will probably think that the specific actions were justified, there are people in the ME, with nationalized media, who see things differently, and I was just trying to point that out.
I cannott respond again, since I am heading to work, so please don't think I'm ignoring anyone who responds. If you want to talk via FM, I will be more than happy to do that.
