I don't care either way on this topic. If they are allowed to get married... fine. If not... doesn't phase me either.

MY personl view of marriage is between 2 consenting ADULTS ETA...and once we start allowing more than that...we are making a mockery of marraige IMO
But what if the 2 consenting adults are male. That should be okay.
To me, in many cases marriages are in some cases a mockery.
like i said...i have no problem with gay marriages... but rather the possible ramifications
Bigamy/polygamy is illegal. I don't think allowing same-sex marriages will change the law on bigamy and polygamy. If the law is narrowly tailored and defines marriage as a union between two consenting adults, it shouldn't open the door to anything but same-sex marriage.
Not in all states...i believe it is legal in a few
And WHY? Same sex marriages are illegal is MANY states too?

that is NOT what i mean...
reasons for getting married IMO are differnt than reasons to change laws..
to say...well Love is love, let who all be in love get married...is inappropriate and again, opens us up to a lot of peoples views of "love" that may not be right

I think two consenting adults should be allowed to get married - regardless of gender, race, etc. - and it should be called marriage.

So do I.
I don't really understand the semantics of not calling it a marraige, but a legal union is ok.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?
This is a very hot topic in my family and must be avoided at all costs.
I am all for same-sex marriages, and my parents are not. They have the same beliefs that many of you stated here, mostly linked to religion as well as the children of these unions.
However, I am religious also and I feel that it is not our place to judge whether these unions are "right" or "wrong." Without getting into too much religious talk, aren't we, no matter which religion you are, supposed to love God and all of his creatures?
In any event, I believe that these unions should be recognized by the government in the same respects as heterosexual marriages.

Don't know if this point was brought up already but 2 consenting adults who are RELATED are also not allowed to get married.
editted because I wanted to quote Colleen.

I'm just saying that we do have laws in place that prevent 2 consenting adults from marrying already for other reasons that "we see fit". It's a counter point to the "Love is Love" argument - it's just not that simple sometimes.

Re: Do you think the US should allow same-sex couples to get married?
i'm always curious about this too. the topic of Marriage really is sooo confusing, and based on so many opinions- and All of those opinions CAN be strongly disputed.
why do people get married? why not just live together? is it for love, or money etc...?
but, IMO, what it comes down to is that Everyone has their own reasons for choosing the person and commitment that they do, and WHY should we be able to say that one is acceptable while another is Not? If Gay individual's don't get to determine how i run my life, then Why should i get to determine how they run theirs?
its a clear cut double standard, which, IMO crosses the line of "separation of church and state".. as well as so many other lines.

That relationship must be a brother-sister or parent-child (eeeww) relationship...other than that cousins can and do get married all the time. FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt were cousins...and my former next door neighbors were first cousins..

no offense, but i get REALLY annoyed when people compare gay marriages to beastiality. "well if two men can get married that means people will start marrying animals" (not qouting you of course)
the topic at ahnd is about gay marriages and when we say "love is love" we arent talking about marrying your dog or horse or cousin or uncle or 5 women. we are talking about two men or two women and with that, just like with a man or woman love IS love.

Totally agree with you.
As I said in an earlier post, as long is there are no health issues (such as related individuals getting married, etc), minors involved or coercion, I believe anyone should be able to get married.

I AM SAYING that you can't just make a BLANKET statement like "LOVE is LOVE"
ETA...and WHAT IF A MAN "LOVE" 5 women

But, are there even any SOUND reasons why gay marriage isn't allowed??? Anything i've ever seen or read was based almost completely on religious belief.
in governemt, that is not a sound enough reason for me.
