Less... no??
But from a religious stand point you arent married.... but if you dont believe in religion than that shouldnt matter to you....
So if a gay couple doesn't care about what YOUR religion says, then it doesn't matter.
No one here is asking the church to change thier laws. We are talking about the state!

I am not against homosexuality at all.... but agree very much with Sonia and Don, like Don said... maybe religion clouds my eyes... but I feel this country was built "UNDER GOD" and from a religious stand point....marriage is for a MAN and a woman...
I thought this country was built around freedom? While I do recognize that religious beliefs had a lot to do with the founding of our country, I still think that the real reason for the establishment of 13 colonies as the United States of America was freedom. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
yes but even in the land of freedom..there are limits...aka, laws
But over time, you need to take a look at the laws and maybe they need to be "ammended". Have we forgotten that in the 230 years since 1776, that women have only been allowed to vote in the last 87? So the fact that there are laws, does not mean that the laws cannnot be revisited and maybe changed.
true....but we can't just use the blanket statement that we live in the land of the free ...IMO

To me it is a separation of church and state issue. I do not confuse the sacrament of marriage in my church with a state sanctioned marriage. [/QUOTe]
I agree.... a marriage from a biblical stand point is the union of a man and a woman....in the eyes of God...
Someone who does not believe in God, or dosent believe Gods presence at their "wedding"....then from a religious stand point they are not married....
However in the state they will be....
I don't think gays are asking that their marriage be recognized by the Church- just by the state. So what's the problem.
Also, I am Jewish and I had a religious wedding in a temple. The Church does not recognize my wedding, but my religion does. That's what matters to me.
I have gay friends who would love to have a marriage recognized by both the Church and the State. However, IMO, they are seperate issues. Any religion has the right to recognize what they feel follows their theology and teachings, and that is for the leadership and the church membership to debate and figure out. The government and voters should decide what defines state sanctioned marriage. At least that is how I see it.

Why not? It could be done on the same basis as Gay marriages... It is with consenting adults....
I would think if multiple partners wanted to get married, it is a seperate issue. Just because homosexual couples want to get married does not necessarily promote a new issue. If we were going to say from this...this happened ...and then that happened we could be here all day. When the time comes and multiple partners want to get married, that will be judged solely on that matter.
i see your point but i guess MY POINT was that once we open doors, how and when do we shut them
I think its exactly what you stated above... with laws. This is exactly why at the moment homosexual marriages are not legal. They are not trying to open the door...actually they slightly are...which is kind of dumb! But like I said in another post, people in other states highly disagree with approving gay marriages so I am not sure it will be approved.

I was married by a judge too, I am still married. The term married IMO should be used for men & womwn only.
So wait im confused... Is your marriage recognized in the catholic church?
Well, I'm not Catholic. So, I don't know if it is recogzined under their church. I don't believe in the dogmatic ways of certain churches, but that's a whole different issue all together.

People were afraid to allow blacks and women voting rights because they were afraid of opening "that door".
People were afraid to allow interracial marriage because they were afraid of opening "that door".
People were afraid to legalize birth control because of opening "that door".

Not to open a whole new can of worms, but why? If all the parties involved are aware and want to be married (let's say like in the Mormon faith) why shouldn't they be allowed to?
As long as they are consenting adults?

I actually dont really agree with you. I think they agree/disagree for their reasons and we agree/disagree for our reasons. I think to say we are right they are wrong is not the way to solve issues. I think its about how we are raised and how we live in our culture is how we see things as right/wrong. I personally try to understand others reasons rather then dismissing their views.

But from a religious stand point you arent married.... but if you dont believe in religion than that shouldnt matter to you....
So if a gay couple doesn't care about what YOUR religion says, then it doesn't matter.
No one here is asking the church to change thier laws. We are talking about the state!
Im undecided on how to answer this....
Yes.... and no...
The only reason I feel no...is because I feel that this country was built on the guidelines of the bible/religion faith..... and this goes against it...
But again if you dont care what religion says that what does it matter...

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with multiple partner marriages, BUT one of the concerns is:
insurance purposes: can one man, with one job, marry 5 women, have 15 kids and have them ALL under his medical/dental insurance for the same amount that a husband, wife and two kids pay?
i can see that leading to big problems, like insurance fraud, and people using the mormon faith as an excuse to do stuff like that.

Agree with being gay or not...my concern is that these are citizens of our nation that are being denied basic civil liberties. I dont have to agree with them but I dont think anyone should be denied rights that others have.
