No one in our family has anything (except BIL since their DS is 8 days younger than our DS).
We don't even expect them to. I personally don't see any reasons for them to have a bunch of stuff at their house for me visiting once in a while.
I agree with your second paragraph.
And I will also say that the only reason why my mom has as much stuff as she does is because I've brought and left stuff for her there for my kids to have when they go there.

I'm never one to defend ILs, but is it possible she doesn't know what to buy to keep at her house? My MIL has a high chair and some toys and that's it. I bring any supplies we need for visits there. She would have no clue what equipment, diaper size, including brands and preferences we use. If my situation were like yours I would make sure to ask her to stock certain items.
With my parents house it's different -- whatever I want to be over there I buy and keep there. They do replenish some supplies, but I wouldn't expect them to buy anything. I'd prefer they spend $$ on fun things.

it depends on how often you go there.
i'm at my mom's a lot- so she has everything there, I just bring the clothes.

The only reason both sets of grandparents have stuff is because they used to watch DD along with several other children during the day. So they have highchairs, pack n plays, toys.
I wouldn't expect anyone to have anything--especially diapers, wipes--for us otherwise.

My parents have everything at their house! Almost to the point where it is ridiculous.
This is mean, but for the next special occasion instead of giving them a gift, get them a GC to BRU!!

Initially they didn't have too much that they had bought - if anything. And both my mom and MIL each watch DS 2 afternoons a week. I used to bring things with me. They both had PNP that were hand-me-downs. I bought them both booster seats, but my MIl wasn't crazy about hers so she went and bought a highchair, my mom still uses hers. They both have some toys, but they're mostly hand-me-downs. They've bought very little for him specifically, though they have bought him plenty of toys that are at my house.
