DOE teachers on childcare leave. UPDATE*
If anyone can help, I am getting mixed info (shocker!!!!)
I am in my second year of childcare leave, planning on taking the whole time, returning the sept after DC's 4th birthday.
My DH is starting a small business and he will list me as 50% owner. I will receive a W2 form at the end of each year BUT I will not be working. I will be taking care of the kids full time. On paper I will show an income but I will not physically be working. Will this be a problem with my childcare leave? I'm hearing that you may work part time and I'm hearing no work at all.
UPDATE: I called the ethics dept. Spoke with a very nice woman (212) 374-3438. It IS a big deal! You may not have an income other than working for the DOE (f status or subbing with in DOE) while out on leave. The details are listed in chancellors regs C-110 and C-603. The regs do make sense and i don't think it's worth the risk. Hubby is on his own! Thanks for all the input ladies !

Re: DOE teachers on childcare leave
I'm going to a workshop next week but from what I have heard as of now it's no working at all and if they "catch" you it's immediate termination with loss of pension unless you had this job prior to your leave and it was approved by the conflict of interest dept

Re: DOE teachers on childcare leave
If you choose to work part time it can ONLY be for the DOE. Otherwise they'll terminate you if you get caught.

Not necessarily true if work began before your eave and was approved

Yes if it is approved you can do it but if it is not education related and you were not doing it prior to your leave it is unlikely it will be approved.

Interesting. Maybe that's a newer addendum to the leave policy. When I went to the workshop in Oct 2010, they made it sound like the sky would come crashing down if you worked during a leave.
To the OP - IMO don't think it's a good idea if your DH lists you as half an owner of a company. Not worth the risk!

Re: DOE teachers on childcare leave. UPDATE*
I have a slightly different case as I'm an SLP and not a classroom teacher so I think that accounts for the difference. Glad you found someone who was friendly and helpful! Not always easy to find when calling the doe
