Re: Does anybody hate the city?
I love it, but could never live there.
DH commuted there for work for 2 yrs till we moved to FL and didn't mind the commute. But on weekends when we wanted to go out, NYC was on the bottom of the list since he was there every day during the week.

Re: Does anybody hate the city?
I love the city! I love coming in here every morning, going out during lunch, hanging out after work or on the weekends. The commute gets to you sometimes, yes...but I still love it. If I could afford it, I would LOVE to live here and just get away into the country for the weekend.

Re: Does anybody hate the city?
Its a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there..... I love exploring, seeing shows, going to museums, trying new restaurants and bars ...but I lived in the city when I first graduated college and HATED it...I broke my lease and moved out to LI....at the end of the day I need my peace, quiet and space.

Re: Does anybody hate the city?
i feel really sorry for anyone who hates the city.
NYC is so rich in culture. its got the best food, art, etc.
people in other countries dream of coming here one day, so i think its pretty sad when a NYer hates its own city.
if you hate the city you probably hate it due to commuting. commuting sucks no matter where you are. maybe not, i dont know.

if you hate the city you probably hate it due to cummuting. cummuting sucks no matter where you are.
I think that's really unfair. I'm a city person, but I can understand the appeal of the suburbs. Some people just don't like the city.

Nope has nothing to do with the commute. It is only a 30 min train for me.
I don't think it's sad at all. I don't feel like I am missing anything either.
It's not for me. To be honest I am not into art and the best food, etc.
It's just my opinion no reason to be sad about it

i'm not saying you can't enjoy both. i just feel bad for ppl that don't like the city, because there is so much to experience in it. to each their own. i couldnt imagine living in the suburbs right now, but thats just me.

I do, even though I commute in everyday. I really need to take more of an advantage of living so close to NYC. There are so many wonderful things to do and see in the city.

I think the point is, that is shouldn't ellicit your "pity" or put you in the position to "feel badly" for them...b/c you are right...to each their own.
btw...what is cummuting? I might want to try that one day

Re: Does anybody hate the city?
I love it once I get there but I absolutely LOATHE the thought of taking the trip in there. Finding a spot, standing on the platform, walking up the stairs at Penn, finding a cab, etc. And I'm going in there this week for dinner. BUT once I'm there I love it!

I dont love it or hate it but I wish I appreciated it more and took advantage of all the marvelous things it has to offer. If that didn't have to ever include Penn Station - I would be one happy camper!

Re: Does anybody hate the city?
I love the city!! I live and work here too.
Its amazing that I can just "pop" into the Met or the museum of natural history for an hour or two with my daughter if I want to leave work early. And eat any ethnicity of food I want. And take a train downtown and walk around the village to see such beautiful buildings.
I also love the diversity of the city. My daughter is growing up living on the same hall as a gay couple, a single mom with two teenagers and a professional single woman. Not to mention all the people in our buiding that we meet in the elevator- the tibetan monk-in-training, people of all ethnicities and nationalities. When I grew up, all I knew were white and Asian kids in the traditional family.
And playing in the park- my daughter runs up to kids and I talk to their parents. Its amzaing. People from all different countries, in all different professionas: Scientists, doctors, HR, event planners, teachers, curators, and careers I never even heard of.
I feel truly blessed to be living in such an amazing city.
