Does anyone else cringe when a word is HORRIBLY misspelled?

OK..I don't care about tiny errors...people type quickly, myself included..

But I mean to the point where it's not even the same word?

A woman in my moms club in VA just emailed everyone and wrote that her doctor "Had the ALLDASSIDY..."

It took me a minute before I realized she meant AUDACITY. Chat Icon

Sorry, I know this is petty but my eyes were bleedin'!

YES.

I can handle everyday misspellings but that "urks" me to no end. Chat Icon

I just can't get over it. Alldassidy. Thats like making up your own word entirely.

I have a friend who always writes "supposively" in her emails. After 11 years of friendship I still don't have the heart to correct her...she's a bit touchy, lol..

Based on her spelling she also mispronounces it. Hooked on phonics did not work for her.

Yes. Although I'm guilty of mistyping words.

honestly, i don't really care. Not everyone is born to be Spelling Bee champs. I have better things to get piss ed off in life about then a mispelling of a word.

I have much better things to be ****** about too....i didn't say i got ******. I said i just cringed, that is all. I could care less about simple misspellings..just found it odd that a well educated mom who was a teacher spelled a word like that...it was actually funny to me, no harm in it, just a pretty bad error!

I cringe too. Mostly because I feel embarrassed for the person.

yeah cringed and pisssed is a bit different.

I spell most daily words wrong a lot, type too fast but when the word is butchered, I think its horrible.

I see too many crazy mistakes and I think its sad.

Oh, this is a HUGE pet peeve for me. I think it is ironic when people are "venting" about a co-worker who is stupid and their post is filled with grammar and spelling errors. Chat Icon Chat Icon

For example:

I cant beleive how ignerant my boss is. He is incompotent. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, this bothers me every day. I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to spelling. I'm all for trying to sound it out, but use spell check or look it up the old-fashioned way in a dictionary!!! Chat Icon

I hate it. LOTS.

My BIL is just awful. An honest-to-God sample of his work. He sent us my nephew's Christmas lists:

New velcrow sneakers
Used scates his size
Giants outfet
Royal coribian shairs
Disney shairs

I guess i am the odd ball- I could care less-more important things in life to worry about than a word spelled wrong!

I guess in this case, it takes one to know one! Chat Icon

To answer the original question....yes, I cringe when I see words blatantly misspelled. Typos I have no problem with. They're exactly that...a typo.

I'm usually oblivious to most misspellings, but the one that catches my attention every time is when people use "seperate" in place of "separate". It must have been drilled into my head in one of my English classes at one time. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Exactly. I can't take someone serious if they don't even have the spelling capabilities of a 5th grade student.
