all I want to know is...
..what did her doctor have the alldassidy to say?
Lol! It was actually a note about the pediatrician she was seeing...how he "Had the alldassidy to say that her son should be speaking at least 10 words by this point..".
And just to reclarify for anyone else wondering...I think somehow my post got misinterpreted by certain people...little things don't bother me, and I certainly don't spend my days and nights upset about spelling errors. With a child, 2 jobs, SAHM and money worries I definitely have bigger things on my mind. I guess I should have said when someone BUTCHERS a word to the point of it not even being a word, it irks me...thats all!

I have seen a couple of times on here - someone will write the word "walla" - I then realized that they meant "voila"

Re: Does anyone else cringe when a word is HORRIBLY misspelled?
yes it bothers me to no end!!!!! "made up" phonetic words crack me up!
especially when it's a publication of some sort--i took piano lessons last year for several months. they mailed me their brochure and the mistakes were horrible!!! entire words were wrong and the spelling mistakes were numerous. i actually brought it with me when i paid my bill and told them that as a professional organization, they should hire a proof reader. and the woman at the desk agreed!

This one gets me too. I've also seen "discusting" and "urk."
I have a friend who ALWAYS says "supposebly" and when she talks about that bridge in Staten Island, it's the "Verranzano." I just don't have the heart to correct her, though.

I've seen this too. I admit I'm a spelling and grammar snob. There are so many things that annoy me. Some of the major ones are not knowing the difference between they're, there and their, to and too, your and you're, then and than, effect and affect, and whose and who's; not knowing how to spell definitely; adding an apostrophe to plural words; and using "prolly" (not a word) instead of probably and of instead of have (it's could have not could of).

Seeing that word just made me
i get that some people don't know how to spell as well as we would all like--but the horrid phoenetic spellings is what drives me nuts.
like suttle annoys me a lot. or using the word "can you guys give me some ADVISE?"
right - i agree.
i find that since i've been out of school - mind you, i was the spelling bee champ in third grade, LOL! but since i've been out of school you do tend to forget things somewhat - HOWEVER - that's little things here and there and most of the time i type too fast and then realize - duh that's not right or whatever... but MAJOR mistakes and things like that -- drive me nuts!
i forget what i was reading the other day but someone had typed or posted something along the lines of "it was a really hard decession to make" and i'm like DECISION??
i'm not perfect w/ the spelling and by that i mean REALLY hard words i may not know or i may brain fart on some moderately tough words but COME ON! my sister said a guy emailed her via a dating website spelled the word lying like this: LIEING

Re: Does anyone else cringe when a word is HORRIBLY misspelled?
One of my best friends has to be about the worst speller in the world. Sometimes, reading her emails are almost painful. I pride myself on spelling (why, I don't really know) and I cannot even fathom how she comes up with spelling of a few words.

While we're at it... It's "all intents and purposes" NOT "all intensive purposes"
And irregardless is not only NOT a proper word, if it were a word, it would mean the exact OPPOSITE of what you use it to mean.
(exhale) There, I feel better.
oops.
thanks for posting this kara - i am pretty good with spelling and grammar but i have to say, i honestly didn't know this - either one!!
and anothe rthing- your head is ALWAYS over your heels. Duh!
if my head was always over my heels i would not be in my current condition.

According to Merriam-Webster you are both right
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Oh, this is a HUGE pet peeve for me. I think it is ironic when people are "venting" about a co-worker who is stupid and their post is filled with grammar and spelling errors.
For example:
I cant beleive how ignerant my boss is. He is incompotent.

I see it a lot on here, things like "alldassity" it's weird to me because it shows people are using words and phrases without really understanding what they mean.

This is what I'm taling about.lif you thought about what the word meant..and associated works...definition, finite..you wouldn't spell it wrong. I hope she's not an English teacher!
Or does she think that you can have a "fanate" quantity of something?

Re: Does anyone else cringe when a word is HORRIBLY misspelled?
I actually cringe more when people try to impress others by using big words when they talk or write. When the words are misused, they just look dopey to me.
