I don't think that's rude at all.
I would never expect someone to wait in line for a newspaper. I see people do what this woman did all the time. Doesn't bother me at all.

It's one of those stupid things that annoys me. I don't know why it's a big deal to wait on line like everyone else. Most of the time the guy at the newstand just nods and continues doing what he's doing. Other times, he rings in the sale so then it is like cutting the line because it does hold up the line for everyone else.

I don't fine that rude at all-I have done it myself when I was in a hurry and have no issues with other people doing it. It's just a newspaper-she didn't need to have anything weighted, wrapped and she had the exact change...

Nope -- don't think it 's rude.

I don't see the point of waiting in line behind 5 ppl if I have the 50 cents or whatever it is all set to go and just drop it on the counter. But that's just me.

I've done it...and at DD too, when someone on line in front of me is taking very long, the lady knows what I want so she makes it quick and I give her my 2 bucks and I'm out.

Doesn't bug me. In fact, I find It more courteous. I'd be more annoyed at the guy in line in front of me with a paper. I'd prefer it if they just leave the money and go. It frees up the line.

I can see how it is a little rude, but at least they are paying! LOL. And I guess if there are long lines, they are not adding to the line by doing this. so i guess it doesn't bbother me.

for the paper, i do not find that rude

No, I don't find it rude either.

What I do find rude...when your are on line or being waited on and someone else comes up to the register to interrupt and ask a question.

me too! HATE that.. or when you are at, say, a department store and you are being waited on in the middle of asking a question and someone comes up and interrupts and the sales clerk STOPS helping you to go help the person that interrupted!!!! I want to SCREAM when that happens!!!!

Wouldn't bother me at all if she didn't need change or any assistance at the counter. It's not wasting anyone's time really.

People did this all the time at deli's in the city (so did I). It wasn't unusual.

If it's at a mom & pop store or stand, sure. If it's like a place like Stop & Shop or something like that, no.

I THINK ITS RUDE. I used to work at Genovese and people did it all the time on Sundays. It was worse when we got the scanners b/c then we had to remember what paper they took while ringing up the other people then go get what they took to scan it.

And just b/c everyone does it, doesn't mean its okay.

If you want the paper that quickly that you can't wait on line - get it delivered to your houseChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am kind of in this boat of thought...lets say it could be anything. If the line is really that long, then chances are that the people behind the counter are really busy. And then lets say that 3 people come in see the line, take the one thing they came to get - put their exact change on the counter and leave...who the hell knows what that's for? Lets say I am at the grocery store and I only have one item and I am behind a lady with a full cart. If she lets me go ahead of her thats great - if not I wait just like everyone else...it would be weird to just walk ahead and say "here - for the milk!" My time is just as valuable as anyones but first come first serve. Its not like the person at the front of the line was just shooting the bull and the cashier wasn't doing their job. I've been the cashier and I have been the customer. It's better for everyone just to wait your turn.

I don't know, I just don't see how it's hurting you. How are you waiting any longer?

I don't do it, I get my paper delivered but if I was in line and you did this I don't see how it impacts me at all. I'm not waiting any longer because you slapped your money on the counter, right?

There are a lot of things that people do that don't hurt me in particular but I don't think they are right. My point is just that if there is a line, I will wait with everyone else, because everyone else is just as important as I am. But that's my twisted way of thinking. Chat Icon

It didn’t hurt me, it annoyed me. I have places to be as I am sure she does. Why is her time any more valuable than mine? I waited in line, she should have to as well. In reality I did wait longer,,,(maybe only a few seconds longer) but the cashier stopped what she was doing, looked up to see what the lady had in her hands and then rang her up

For me, I don't think someone needs to stand in a line just so I feel better about standing in line. I'm standing in line anyway so it won't change that.

I don't think the person doing it thinks they are any more important than anyone else. They just happen to want an item that costs 50 cents and have that exact amount at the ready.

To me, it it's not hurting anyone and the store owner doesn't have a problem with it I wouldn't have an issue. But I guess I am laid back about this kind of stuff-or just very selfish since I only care if it has an impact on ME and MY wait timeChat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Don't worry lots of people are like that.
I guess its just a sore spot for me because I dated a guy who thought he was super special and NEVER wanted to wait in line for anything. Always felt he should just be able to go in get what he needed an leave. And I always used to have to see the faces of all the other people who were annoyed at his behavior and I don't want to be like that.

The fact that is has to be rung up annoys me. If it is a coffee cart, then just fine.

Yeah. The cashier has to collect the $ and ring up the purchase-especially before someone else comes up and dpes the same thing. Why distract him or her while they're with someone else? Or even if he or she waits, it'll have to be dealt with before the next person in line comes up.

I think it's rude, she should have asked if it was okay first to be polite.

It would only bother me if the cashier rang up her newspaper purchase to put her money away before they took me. Then it's like she cut the line.

Funny though, I never do it myself. I always wait in line.

I prefer it - gets the people out of the store.

I rarely buy a paper - but when I do, I never have exact change Chat Icon
