Does anyone else have a really dusty house?

I could dust every day and come away with a load of dust. Our place before this was never like this. Are some houses just dustier than others?

DH claims it's because we have a woodburning stove, but it's just as dusty in the summer, so I don't think that's the reason.

It's so annoying and embarrassing, I feel like there's always a film of dust on everything!! Chat Icon

Do you think thats what it is? i live in the Channel... i just figured it was the damp air that makes the dust stick to surfaces.

Yes but I have a pug and 2 cats so I dust and vacuum daily because of them.

Yes but I think it's more cat hair than dust.

YES! And I have glass end tables. Chat Icon

We recently had a sleep over with our two cousins (7 and 9 y/o) and naturally I cleaned the place top to bottom before they got there. The younger one walked in and goes "Wow, it's really dusty in here." Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is where I would have busted out the swiffer duster and the white gloves and said "You have at it then!!" Smart azz

Re: Does anyone else have a really dusty house?

Yes, I attribute it to our dark wood furniture. I think it's that the dust shows more than it would on lighter furniture.

Re: Does anyone else have a really dusty house?

I do, and it's probably because I keep my windows open all the time, even a tiny bit during the winter. Once the heat goes on it gets worse.
Add to that cat hair.
It's a constant battle and the swiffer doesn't really cut it. I use a lightly damp flannel cloth to wipe up the dust, and regularly vacuum the furniture, drapes and blinds.

Re: Does anyone else have a really dusty house?

YES!
I have thought about posting this question before because I feel like it can't be normal.
Someone told me it's because I live close to a crematory Chat Icon Not sure how accurate that is.
Anyway, it is very annoying!!! I feel like I am dusting constantly & it's not enough.

Yup...I attribute it to our three cats. We dust and sweep and dust and sweep and vacuum and sweep and dust and dust and dust sooooooo often.

Re: Does anyone else have a really dusty house?

Yup! It was like that before I got animals though too. I've tried switffering, I've tried using pledge, I even break out the attachments and vacuum the dust away. Doesn't matter, it is back in an hour. Chat Icon
