Does anyone get zero use out of their glider??

DH INSISTED that we get an expensive glider Chat Icon I told him absolutely not, its only in the babies room. It's not like it's in the living room with a ton of people sitting on it. Plus who knows if I'll even use it that much to warrant a better chair.

well low and behold, I think i've sat on it 3 times since DD is bornChat Icon
She hates being rocked back and forth (but not if i'm rocking her STANDING UP, of course)

DH is the biggest waster of moneyChat Icon
I look at it every day and think "WHY did we need to spend $700 on this chair?!"

Re: Does anyone get zero use out of their glider??

My DH was the opposite of yours till DS was born. I kept saying that I would like to get a cheap one, say like $60 or whatever. He kept saying it wasn't really needed, but after having 9 neices and nephews of my own, I knew I would get at least SOME use out of it. Sure enough, once DS was born, we had one in the hospital room. He would always stop crying instantly if we rocked with him. I admit, it's not used that much, but when and if he wakes in the middle of the night, or just simply refuses to go to bed, I will rock with him in it. Also, I use that to read him his book at night.

We bought ours when I was about 36 weeks pregnant and I sat in it all the time those last few weeks of pregnancy. Now that DS is born, I think I've *maybe* used it 5-6 times. Most of the time, DH just uses it to pile his clothes on Chat Icon

When DS was a newborn I got a LOT of use out of it. almost every feeding was in his room on the glider. now that hes 9 months old i still give him in bedtime bottle and book in the glider before bed.

I wish she liked them! I'd love to get some kind of use out of it. Instead it has her toys and diaper bag piled on it.

I feel bad. it just sits there. unused

Is reading a book part of her bedtime ritual? Maybe you could read to her on the glider, then it would be getting some use!

Re: Does anyone get zero use out of their glider??

we got a gllider...not a $700..my coworker has a Dutalier one..i think she spent $700 on it. She raved about it..but I certainly didnt have that $$ to spend on a chair.

the one we bought was from Kmart for $150 and it was a great investment. We bought it the day after I came home with DS. We quickly realized we would need a place to rock the colicky little guy..LOL. I spent many hours up there rocking DS in it. Now its too hot upstairs where is room is to sit in it, but I will use it again when it gets cooler.

But yeah,. I can see why you are upset at spending $700 on one Chat Icon

We don't use it as much now but we used it a lot the first few months. We keep it in our room since DDs room is small and it would be too tight in there with it. But when she was still in her bassinet and feeding in the middle of the night it was great for that!

Now it's all alone in the corner and is usually holding our decorative pillows and some of my clothes Chat Icon Chat Icon. I hope to either move it downstairs so I can use it when reading to DD or set it up in her toyroom (which does not exist yet). It's super comfortable!

Re: Does anyone get zero use out of their glider??

It is the exact opposite for me, but it is in our bedroom. We got an upholstered glider as opposed to a wooden one. I think it is an excellent purchase. Someone is always sitting in it.

Re: Does anyone get zero use out of their glider??

We LOVE our glider/recliner. We got it as a gift and it was pretty expensive. I used it early on...since its in DD's room...when we would get non stop visitor when she was born...i would sneak into her room to BF her so I wouldn't have to whip out my boobs in front of everyone. At the beginning...I would do EVERY feeding on the glider. I still use it all the time now.

I agree with PP...read to her as part of your bedtime routine...or dim the light and snuggle! Sometimes we just sit there and play peek-a-boo or I sign to her.

I actually still use mine. I used it with DD until DS was born and now it's in his room. He's 2 now and we sit and read in it every night since he's still in the crib.

eta: both my DC were in the crib from day one. So I did all the night feedings it in too. I loved that it reclined and I was comfy (although tired!)

Re: Does anyone get zero use out of their glider??

I hardly used it when DS was an infant because I usually BF'ed in my bed with the Boppy. But once I stopped the BF'ing, we did story time before bed every night in the glider. Then when he went into his big boy bed, it became useless again and into the attic it went.

We used our glider quite a bit for both DC when they were infants, and now it's in the living room, and one of the most sought-after chairs in the room.... Chat Icon

Definitely one of the better purchases we made.

I love mine, it's in my DD's room. I used it a lot when I was BF'ing, some nights I fell asleep in it while holding her, and now that she is older we use it every night for story time before bed. She cuddles up on my lap and we glide back and forth while we read. I am glad we have it. You will probably use it more as your LO gets older. Chat Icon
