Does anyone NOT take the lovey away after their baby falls asleep?

I understand there is the SIDS risk, but I am a little confused.

If the lovey is supposed to help soothe them-- but you take it away from them when they fall asleep, what happens when they wake up? Won't they search for it and cry until you give it back to them? Then the whole process starts over.

nah-- just when I have asked about it, or seen other posts relating to CIO, etc., I have seen people say this. I think when the baby is older, it is not as much of a concern-- don't know though.

In the last two nights of using it, I have noticed that Sasha uses it to grab onto and suck-- which is good for when she loses the pacifier.

My DS is 6 1/2 months old. He uses a lovey, and will only fall asleep if he has it. I don't take it away from him in the night. He uses it to soothe himself back to sleep *sometimes* lol

I keep it in there with her...she's fine. She usually sleeps with it hugging it like a doll Chat Icon

this is what Sasha does-- but, sometimes I feel it and it's all wet-- since she's had it in her mouth as well.

When I am not counting the mins to go in and soothe her, I feel I am checking out the monitor and going in and pulling the lovey away. I am getting NO sleep. Chat Icon

My sons sleep with a light blanket and 3 stuffed animals - they are all always in the crib

I only take sadie;s away because she literally puts it directly over her face to fall asleep. She hardly ever wakes up in the middle of the night so it is not an issue for us.

same here. DS literally bunches it up in front of his nose. I am way to nervous to leave it in there. I take it away and if he wakes up give it to him and take it away again when he falls asleep. He rarely wakes and usually goes right back to sleep.

DS' lovey is small so I never/still don't take it away. Plus, if he wakes in the middle of the night, that's the first thing he looks for.

all babies are different, and have different loveys.

DS is a small blanky with a teddy head attached, that his great grandma bought him.

I read on here many moms use the burp clothes, incase you ever lose the lovey, you always have backups!

My two older kids both had loveys (still do, as a matter of fact.) DS has a puppy stuffed animal and DD has a silky pink blanket. It honestly never even occurred to me to take it away after they were sleeping!!

I didn't give my son a lovey until he was about 8-9 months old. It took a while before he fell in love with it. Now, you can't pry it out of his hands. Chat Icon

I don't remove it. He wakes up looking for it in the middle of the night. That is how he puts himself back to sleep. My ped said it is fine. If I happen to look at the monitor and it is over his face I go in and move it.

Melania has had a blankie since 2 months old, and is VERY attached to it..its a Taggie blanket..and its only a small square with a bunch of tags on it..anyway, i never let her sleep with it in the crib at nite for fear shed suffocate, since she holds it up to her face and hugs it..but since shes been rolling both ways, and is no longer swaddles, i put it in, and she sleeps soooo much better with it..if she DOES happen to wake up, as soon as i RE-GIVE it to her, i have to literally re place it in her arms, she goes back to sleep lol

I never took it away. They all had their "loveys" when they were 2-3 weeks old.
