don't waste your money ladies...EDIT with more ???

I bought DH a father/son gold tie tack for father's day. The following is the email exchange I had with the company who doesn't stand behind their product:

my initial email:

Hi,

I purchased a father/son tie tack in July '08 for my husband for fathers day. He's been waiting for a special occasion to wear it. He finally wore it last week to a job interview for luck. He came home devastated. The clasp on the back of the tie tack must of fallen off because it was gone. I'm so upset. With us both being out of work....this was kind of a big purchase for me. I simply cannot afford to replace it. I would've thought that for an item that was $155, it would've lasted longer than a one time use. Maybe there was something wrong with the backing? Is there anything you can do to help us? Thanks in advance.

Debbie

Her response:

Hi Debbie,

I am so sorry that the tak was lost. Unfortunately, the back that comes with the tak is the best and most secure one that is available. Have you checked with your homeowners policy to see if it would be covered?

my second email:

no....maybe if I owned a home, I might be able to afford to replace the tack :(

If the back was the most secure one...maybe the one you sent me was faulty. Is there nothing your company will do to stand behind their product?

Debbie

her response:

Hi Debbie,

The tak was tested before it was sent to you. If it was a manufacturers defect we would certainly take care of this. We are not however, responsible for loss.

all the best,

my final response:

I'll be sure to let all the ladies on the parenting message boards I frequent know your stance on this. Frankly, I'm disappointed you don't stand behind your product. This was not a "loss" of say, "hmmmmm, where did I put that". This was my husband wore this once and the backing came of and it fell off. That to me sounds like faulty manufacturing. Maybe you should reconsider who you have handling your testing of products.

Good day!

Debbie

I know there's nothing I can do about this. I just didn't want anyone else to get duped out of their hard earned money on a faulty product from a company that doesn't stand behind their name.

Re: don't waste your money ladies...

My pet peeve is bad customer service so I wouldn't shop there after reading this. can you call and ask to speak to someone else or maybe an email to someone higher up. when all is said and done, your DH is out a tie tack that you spent $155 on. I would pursue it even if it cost 1/4 of that price - that's just ridiculous that they aren't trying in any way to make good. how much can that thing cost them??

totally not right of the company. What would a replacement back really cost them? Instead, they are losing you as a customer and their bad service is being broadcast.
I agree with you -

Wow, what horrible service. I agree with pp, I would actually call. Sometimes emails aren't answered by anyone of importance and you can stir the pot a little more with a call.

Re: don't waste your money ladies...

First request to speak to a manager, adn then tell the manager that you are going to do a chargeback on your credit card if they cannot assist you in amicably resolving this issue.

Tell the manager that you plan to contact your card issuing bank and to chargeback becuase they product that you received is not the quality fo product that you requested. Let them know that you will be including all e-mail correspondence with your complaint to prove that you made every attempt to resolve the issue by requesting a replacement of the backing - but that they preferred to lose you as a customer.

Here is the thing. A chargeback costs a merchant money (they are charged a cb fee that is usually between 20-40 dollars) and time (they must respond in writing) whether they win or lose. Since customer service is apparently not a priority for them, perhaps cold, hard cash is. Sometimes just the thought of having to defend a chargeback - especially if they have had many - will cause them to re-think their original position.

YES. This is the same exact one (but in white gold).

Thanks for all the advice ladies. A few more questions...

I just clarified with DH and the backing remained on his tie, but the pin was gone, it popped outChat Icon I totally misspoke in the email, but I don't think she would've responded any different. Maybe I should clarify with her that the backing must of been, in fact, faulty. any advice?

ALSO I paid via paypal not credit card. Do you think I could try to get the same refund through them??
