ds is sick...ear infection and now tmi...?
Doc put him on augmentin bc his fever has gone up to 102.6 and has an ear infection (btw he is almost 8 months old). 2 hours after his first antibiotic dose he threw up his whole meal. I called doc bc I got scared and he said the tylenol might be upsetting his stomach and nopt to worry. But ds has never thrown up before and has taken tylenol before as well. So 24 hours later and he has thrown up 2 more times and had diahrrea (never had it before eitgher). Googled augmentinm and says its common. Ds still has fever. My question is... How do I feed him? What do u do when ur baby is sick and isn't keeping food down??? And also tell me not to freak about his temp. Tia!!!

Ask for something else... It may be normal, but it isn't right for him to be suffering. Augmentin is rough on stomachs. Ask for Amoxicillian... DS is the same way and I refuse to let him take it.
Also, give him pedialyte and get some childrens Florastar. It is good for when they are on antibiotics...

I second florastor whenever DC is on antibiotics..and unfortunately my DD has had a lot of ear infections and antibiotics (until tubes, but that's another story)..I don't think she was ever given augmentin...I hope he didn't get the stomach bug on top of it! I hope he feels better and I also second the pedialyte if he won't keep other fluids/foods down..we were always told to get the plain flavored one..

Diahrrea is a common side effect of the antibiotics. We usually give Activa yogurt to help put back the bacteria in the stomach. Does he eat dairy yet?

I've taken augmentin a few time myself and had horrific nausea. It's a very common side effect from it. My dd has penicillin allergy, so she has taken Zithromax liquid for ear infections which worked well. Also Biaxin was good and ok on her stomach.

Definitely get the florastor, but personally I only give it once a day (the box says twice) i get it at target and they have it behind the pharmacy counter, its an OTC medicine though.
Is he eating pasta yet? Pastina or ditalini might be good. Also, personally I wouldn't push any formula/BM right around when you are going to give him the medicine, so it doesn't bother his stomach. If he keeps throwing up you might want to give him a little pedialite too.
Hope he feels better soon!!!!
