Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
...and Curtis Sliwa said something interesting today. Rev. Jesse Jackson had raised all sorts of money for the woman who accused the players and wrote horrible letters about the guys. Now that charges have been dropped, do you think Jackson should apologize? I mean, do as I say, not as I do?
I am NOT saying these Duke guys are good guys at all; I'm sure the lines were crossed on many levels. However, now that charges are dropped, do you think he should apologize to the guys? Either way, he refuses to. With all the "apologizing" going on as of late, I thought it was a valid point. I'm guessing Jackson is just standing by his guilt belief and that's that.
ETA: Well, I guess what good is an apology if you don't mean it, so...I don't know.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
Interesting. I am so glad that the charges were dropped, but these poor kids are tarnished for life. And they will always be labelled as the "Duke Lacrosse kids."
As for Rev. Jesse Jackson, yes he should apologize, but you are right, it would be an empty gesture. He should spend as much time and effort helping these kids get their lives & credibility back as he did to help that lying b!tch try & convict the innocent.
(wow someone peed in my corn flakes this morning )
I feel very strongly about this because these kids went through HELL in school, getting kicked out of school, when they came home....it was completely unjustified AND the DA has evidence FROM THE BEGINNING that would have cleared them. Sorry but it was a witchhunt from the get-go, and they will never get their lives back to where it was before the whole thing transpired.

I don't think it can
Can they now sue for defamation of character & wrongful persecution?

I think they are already suing- I remember the parents said that when there were on dateline or 20/20
and they have $$$- so I bet they have great lawyers

I'm sure the Old Boys Network will help them sweep this under the rug and find them nice jobs somewhere. I wouldn't be too concerned.

I completely agree. As someone else said, these are rich boys. I'm sure they'll be fine.

I dont think it matters that they are rich. their repuations will be forever tainted because of this and their lives have been changed dramatically. they were forced to leave college, they lost jobs etc. Just because they are rich doesnt make it okay that this injustice happened to them....

These kids were ripped out of school and demonized by the media. They had no privacy for months, and their relationships were affected.
Not everything is about money
Meanwhile where is the person to advocate for the suspension/firing of the DA that knowingly hid evidence that would have cleared them from the beginning.

You're right, money has nothing to do with it. But they'll get over it. And like I said, the Old Boys Network will take care of this. Believe me, this will blow over soon.
Yeah, if my kid ever finds himself in a college frat house, drunk, with a bunch of guys cheering on some $20 strippers, I'll be real proud of the job that I did raising him.
People spend too much time worrying about what the people next door are doing.

i don't understand this last statement...
so people should turn a blind eye to something like this?
to answer the OP: yes, i totally think he should apologize!

I don't know about Jackson apologizing. He believed the victim. That's not a crime. But I think that woman will be facing fraud charges and I hope she gets jail time.

oh please- do you think you kid is going to sit in their dorm room and study for 4 years and never go to a party- that is totally unrealistic
getting in to Duke and being good enough to step on the Lacrosse field is something to be very proud of! and to have that taken away b/c they went to a party and a girl made up a lie- isn't fair
I'm sure it will blow over- but the damage is done- all it takes is google!

My point is, that unless you're gonna be the person who picks up that pen and paper and writes to whomever is necessary to get the DA fired, or to get these kids' 'good' names reinstated, or you're gonna send money to the 'help the rich kids get even with the State' fund, then all you need to do is watch your own. Make sure your kids don't get involved in this kind of stupidity, by teaching them good values and judgment.

If my son finds himself at Duke, one of the best colleges in the country, and happens to go to a party with strippers, I will get over it. Everyone one I know got drunk in college and many of the guys I know went to strip clubs or saw strippers at parties. So if you are going to be disappointed in your son for doing that, I suggest you think twice about having children.
I am not sure why you have such a grudge against these kids, and yes they will get over it, but no one deserves to be falsely accused of rape. You clearly have some issues with the "old boys network" since you keep bringing it up.... So money seems to have everything to do with it from your point of view.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
Regardless of how much money your parents have, you cannot buy your reputation back, neither the accusations made against them.
Everywhere they will go, they will be labelled. Some people will still think they had something to do with it or they cannot be ALL that innocent
Yes, it's bad that they got drunk or paid for a stripper. I would not be happy either as their mom. But I am not sure the price they paid can't even compare to drinking too much or seeing a woman naked.
And yes, they will get over it but I sure hope it never happens to my kid to have to go through such a nightmare.

Just because everyone you know got drunk, presumably underage - since MOST college kids are under age - does that mean it's ok to do?
I have no problem at all with these kids at all. Heck, I don't even know them. Neither do most of you. I have a problem with people feeling so bad for them. Everybody thinks they know everything just because it's printed in a newspaper. Newspapers lie. People lie.
Thanks for telling me my point of view. I don't have a problem with people having money or connections. All I'm saying is that they will use that power to get past this, so people need not worry about them so much.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
Hey, my two cents is that I don't feel badly for them. If I had to guess, I'd say that when they called Dial-A-Stripper, they wanted a white woman, being lily-white kids at a very white school. I think that when she arrived, they were probably half in the bag and taunted her. Yeah, probably a bunch of azzes. But the charges were dropped; they didn't rape her according to the courts. Money shouldn't get them out of anything; I hope that wasn't the case. But maybe the gun was jumped and an apology should be issued by Jackson--that's what i mean....people were very quick to take sides. Not here, in general, I mean.

sorry but I have to totally disagree- who says THEY are even the ones that called the stripper
she was given the team pic and she picked out 3 or 4 boys from that
1 wasn't even there- the ATM camera proves it
money didn't get these boys "out" of anything- if anything it was that fact that they were upper middle class white boys made the DA want to go after them- to help his own career

I think Jackson's apology would be an empty apology as well. I wouldn't take it seriously, but then again I don't take HIM seriously and only b/c he seems to go on the assumption guilty until proven innoncent.
I don't see him as someone who has a lot of credibility so I wouldn't hold my breath for that apology nor would I think it would make a difference
I think Nifong should be fired as well for this total debacle
I don't think it is right or fair what happened to these boys, but I think they will be ok in the long run

Question from the unresearched gir;...how is it that we know the boys are RICH?
Another question, who is the good ole boys club? Is it a society like the skulls or something? I'm so confused.
