Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped

I am so glad that these kids were exonerated of these charges and I feel very bad for them for having to go through this ordeal.
I did a lot of research on this with a classmate of mine. There were so many issues with the Prosecutor not following best practices in terms of the line-up and not even interviewing the accused to find out their story.
To me, the person who is most to blame is the prosecutor for not doing his due dilligence and making sure these allegations were credible. ITA. And I think there should be repercussions for it.

I have no problem at all with these kids at all. Heck, I don't even know them. Neither do most of you. I have a problem with people feeling so bad for them. Everybody thinks they know everything just because it's printed in a newspaper. Newspapers lie. People lie.
I agree with you about this point. Given what I've read about the story, which admittedly may not be as much as some people involved in this debate have read, those lacrosse players aren't going to get much sympathy from me. Something very unpleasant happened at that party, and I certainly don't think they were innocent bystanders. I'm reserving my right to be skeptical.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
the whole thing is just a debacle...from the ridiculous media exploitation, to the DA to Jesse Jackson.
we will probably never know what really happened, but I think it WILL blow over eventually.
Yes, being wrongfully accused of such a crime is terrible, and the personal and legal ramifications will undoubtably be felt for a long time, BUT,
did we all forget about this thread
it seems these boys are already getting the benefit of the doubt, and it turned out to be a good thing...
but it does not look like any doors will be closed to them because of this.
all the more, they will be viewed with greater sympathy, but honestly...in a few years time, no one will remember.
and even if they do, they won't be remembered as rapists, they'll be viewed as those "wrongfully accused boys"
I hope if it is true that nothing untoward went on, that they can get past all of this media hoopla and continue their studies.
I guess the only way we'll know for sure is if they are never "heard" from in the news again.
as for Jesse Jackson, I think he should say something....like "oops, sorry, wrong bandwagon"
I guess he should call his boy Rev. Al and ask how you address the media when you back a woman that cries rape..and is wrong.

ITA. And yes, does anyone remember the Tawana Brawley case?

I don't think Jesse Jackson needs to apologize. Just like I don't think Ron Goldman (that's the father right?) needs to apologize to OJ Simpson.

WHY WOULD Ron Goldman apologize to OJ Simpson?
Jesse Jackson contributed to the defamation - BASED on lies - why SHOULDN'T he apologize?
i just don't get the comparison between the two

just saying that technically OJ was not proven guilty - doesn't meant hat everyone believes it. Maybe Jackson doesn't believe that these guys are "innocent"

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
I think it's to compare having an accusing party apologize to the acquitted accused party
it's too far of a stretch for me though. I am not a fan of this argument.
Ron Goldman was an agreived party. and if there was as much evidence on these boys as there was on OJ...forget it....

Actually he was found not guilty in the criminal trial but found GUILTY in the civil trial.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped
this case p!ssed me off right from the beginning - these boys lives are completey altered - they were having a great season an they ere forced to stop playing because of this girls FALSE accusations - it makes me sick that women falsely accuse people of sexual abuse - she is hurting all other victims out there the coach was fired and the community was forced to divide - the prosecutor should get in a lot of trouble for his actions and yes i think that jesse jackson should stand up for his mistake and now apologize to these boys
