Question from the unresearched gir;...how is it that we know the boys are RICH?

Another question, who is the good ole boys club? Chat Icon Is it a society like the skulls or something?
I'm so confused.

it was publicized that the boys came from wealthy families. The one particular boy from Long Island lives in a very wealthy section of Garden City. There were pictures in Newsday of his home so if you were still living up here you probably would have seen it at one point or another. It's probably a $3-4 million home if I had to guess...

As far as the Old boys club, I think that she is referring to the network of wealthy businessmen that tend to help one another out. To be honest, it's not limited to boys anymore. I know plenty of women who have gotten a helping hand from their mother/father or friends of their parents....

Even further, the "Good Old Boys Club" insinuates a network of powerful WASP businessmen & politicians.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped

If the boys are cleared now, why wouldn't people want to help them out then? Why would that be so bad and wrong?
Also, I PERSONALLY know a few people that live in Garden City, they are NOT rich.

This one particular family is affluent. I know not all of GC is, but they are.

I have no idea why people are hating on them so much now that they are cleared. I just think it was unfair the way it was "guilty until proven innocent" by the media and the circus that was created by the media.

Here is a picture of his house with the media attacking it..... They are in the section of GC that Susan Lucci (sp?) lives... definitely wealthy.

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped

Colin Finnerty's dad was president of NASDAQ at one time I believe, and CEO of a large corporation. They live in a mansion and they have $$.

But that has nothing to do with the whole situation IMO.

I totally agree with MrsMBV (as I often do) -- these boys have been put through he!! and it doesn't matter what kind of $$ they do or don't have. If my parents have $$, which they may, does that mean I will be "OK" after I am defamed, demoralized, kicked out of school for something I didn't do? No, it is unrelated.

Jesse owes these kids an apology -- just like everyone who is made to apologize when they stick their foot in their mouth publically. It may be empty but it would at least show that he admits his error. It seems recism is only called out when it is the other way around...Chat Icon

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped

Seriously, what does the fact that they come from wealthy families have to do with anything?!

People with money still have feelings and self-esteem, both of which can be injured during such an ordeal.

Money isn't everything, despite what so many people want to think.

As for Jesse Jackson, I just wish he'd disappear already.

Hey, my two cents is that I don't feel badly for them. If I had to guess, I'd say that when they called Dial-A-Stripper, they wanted a white woman, being lily-white kids at a very white school. I think that when she arrived, they were probably half in the bag and taunted her. Yeah, probably a bunch of azzes. But the charges were dropped; they didn't rape her according to the courts. Money shouldn't get them out of anything; I hope that wasn't the case. But maybe the gun was jumped and an apology should be issued by Jackson--that's what i mean....people were very quick to take sides. Not here, in general, I mean.

sorry but I have to totally disagree- who says THEY are even the ones that called the stripper

she was given the team pic and she picked out 3 or 4 boys from that

1 wasn't even there- the ATM camera proves it

money didn't get these boys "out" of anything- if anything it was that fact that they were upper middle class white boys made the DA want to go after them- to help his own career

i don't know if they called her or not...you know more about it than me...my only basis was that an apology would be nice

wow - just read this:

"We just hope this traumatic experience for all involved ends with the minimum amount of damage," said the Rev. Jesse Jackson, whose Chicago-based Rainbow/Push Coalition had offered to help the accuser pay for college but wasn't able to contact her."

Not sure. I tried to google it but of course all that came up were the articles, nothing about being re-admitted.

I feel like I may have heard that they are allowed back but I am not sure if it was speculation or accurate info

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped

yeah they were, but don't know if they accepted:

Duke University will allow two former lacrosse players accused of sexual assault to return to campus as students in good standing.
The university informed Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty in letters dated Jan. 2 that they were welcome to come back to Duke for the coming semester after they had been placed on interim suspension and then administrative leave of absence. The third accused player, David Evans, graduated from Duke last year.

The gesture reflects the university's new stance toward the three former players. After rape charges were dropped in December, Duke President Richard Brodhead issued a statement calling into question Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong's handling of the case and the fact that kidnapping and sexual assault charges remain against the three men.

In a statement today, Brodhead said: "We have decided that the right and fair thing to do is to welcome back Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty to resume their studies at Duke for the spring semester. Although the students still face serious charges and larger issues require Duke's collective attention, the circumstances in this case have changed substantially, and it is appropriate that the students have an opportunity to continue their education."

I wish, but unfortunatley people are so inclined to believe what they see/read/hear in the news, particularly when it is negative, that it just is not true anymoreChat Icon

Re: Duke Lacrosse charges dropped

I am so glad that these kids were exonerated of these charges and I feel very bad for them for having to go through this ordeal.

I did a lot of research on this with a classmate of mine. There were so many issues with the Prosecutor not following best practices in terms of the line-up and not even interviewing the accused to find out their story.

To me, the person who is most to blame is the prosecutor for not doing his due dilligence and making sure these allegations were credible.

This whole thing is such a shame for these boys. To be put this all this for the past year... I don't care how much money their parents have - they spent millions in defense and I certainly hope they can get it all back.
